The Battle of Wightmoor[1] took place in the capital city of the Dwynnen region in the 5th of Sun's Dawn in 3E 253.[1][2] It was a part of a greater conflict in which the Camoran Usurper invaded western Tamriel. The battle was fought between an undead army called the Nightmare Host and an army of knights led by Othrok, before he became the first Baron of Dwynnen.[2][3] It is named after the capital's seat of power, Castle Wightmoor.[2][4]
BackgroundEdit
Prior to his conquest over the Iliac Bay,[3] concurrent to the Battle of Dragontooth,[5]:8 the Camoran Usurper sent an undead horde called the Nightmare Host to control the Barony of Dwynnen for currently unknown reasons.[3] According to Bretonic legends, the horde was led by a lich controlling an army of ghosts, skeletons, vampires, and zombies, all the while held up in Castle Wightmoor. Othrok, blessed by the gods, emerged from the wilderness with an army of men and animals and destroyed the undead, securing Dwynnen. For his effort, Othrok was proclaimed the region's first Baron and brought both peace and prosperity to the land. In the years that followed suit, Dwynnen expanded into its modern-day borders to the Iliac Bay where it has remained since.[2]
LegacyEdit
As Othrok expanded his nation, the Camoran Usurper drew closer to the Iliac Bay but together with his neighbors, Kambria, Phrygias, and Ykalon, Othrok was able to defeat the Usurper at the Battle of Firewaves in 3E 267.[2] The vanguard that fought with Othrok at the Battle of Wightmoor would continue under his service as the Order of the Raven, the barony's knightly order.[6] Every year on the 5th of Sun's Dawn, the anniversary of the Battle of Wightmoor, the Bretons of Dwynnen celebrate Othroktide. In commemoration of not just their liberation from the Nightmare Host,[1] but to honor Baron Othrok himself[7] who has since been remembered as a hero among the Bretons. Othrok's divine purpose is a central theme in Othroktide.[2]
