Dhalmora is a small Argonian settlement in the marshlands of Bal Foyen, located along the southern coast of Morrowind's Inner Sea.[1][2] It was founded during the time of the Ebonheart Pact by emancipated Argonian slaves, who plant saltrice and herd guar in the former wastes.[1] It is noted for its mud huts, in contrast to the stone Dunmeri architecture otherwise common to the region. Dhalmora is a trading hub, with its own hall of merchants and small dock.[2]
The settlement is protected by the Dunmer-built Fort Zeren to the south as well as a nearby watchtower.[3][4] The nearest cities are Davon's Watch along the coast to the west, and Ald Isra on the Telvanni Peninsula far to the northeast.[2]

Dhalmora possesses an ancient Argonian wayshrine,[5] suggesting Argonian settlement in the region pre-Duskfall.[6]
Prior to the founding of the Ebonheart Pact in 2E 572,[7] Bal Foyen was a wild expanse of marshland uninhabited by the Dunmer. The land was handed over to their former Argonian slaves after the Pact was founded, and the town of Dhalmora was established.[1]
Circa 2E 582, a band of refugees from Bleakrock Isle landed at Dhalmora after fleeing an attack from the Daggerfall Covenant as part of the wider Three Banners War. The refugees arrived too late to warn the region of the impending invasion, with Covenant troops already landing in Bal Foyen by the time they arrived. Local Pact forces ultimately repelled the attackers and defended Dhalmora from direct assault, and word was sent to Stonefalls to warn House Dres of the Covenant's invasion.[8][9][10]
The Covenant invasion caused local guar herds to scatter. As a result, both guar and local Argonian farmers needed to be rescued from the burning saltrice fields.[11][12] Locals also made use of the native fauna to fight back against Covenant troops by throwing treated netch eggs at soldiers, exploiting the protective instincts of bull netches.[13]
CultureEdit
Dhalmora guar herders were known for their knowledge of guar handling and the various different breeds.[14] Local Argonians adorned their tails with a colorful leather bands, often featuring attached bells for decorative purposes.[15] Some Dhalmora Argonians make use of serpent-eye gems known as an Eyes of Sithis See-All. They believe that, when placed beside their beds, the gem will watch over them during the night.[16] Dhalmora is renowned for its thick leather blankets and portable, comfortable sleeping mats.[17][18] Dhalmora Argonians have a peculiar preference for pillows filled with live centipedes, relishing the sensation of the wriggling creatures against their heads.[19] The Dhalmora Scorpion Trap, crafted by Dhalmora Argonians, was a type of contraption designed to attract and capture unwanted scorpions to protect their sleeping areas.[20]
A beloved beverage among the Dhalmora Argonians was the delightful snake sweat, often stored and served from ornate porcelain jars.[21] Turtle-shell platters had a frequent and well-received presence at local gatherings and festivities.[22] Sweet beetle puffs were a favored Dhalmora delicacy among Argonians and other adventurous food enthusiasts.[23] Dhalmora residents were known to be tolerant of Jester's Festival pranks.[24]
Ranic's Leather Oil was a specialized product favored by numerous Dhalmora Argonians for maintaining the sleekness and shine of their scales. Its original purpose was for application on leather, however.[25] Pens crafted from centipede legs were commonly found in Dhalmora,[26] and a type of color-changing ink was created by Dhalmora alchemists.[27] Sections of tables crafted by Argonians in Murkmire were imported to Dhalmora, occasionally together with shipments of slaves.[28] Clay paperweights shaped like guars were commonly used as desk accessories in the local area.[29] In the market district of Davon's Watch, among other wares, redware washbasins with gilt edges and bars of Sload soap were available for sale at the Dhalmora Fine Goods stall.[30] During the Interregnum, the local bank "Drinks-Not-Investments" distributed fashionable leather bookmarks as a promotional item to boost their business,[31] and tokens of obligation to remind bank customers of their dealings with the bank.[32]
