Stirk is an island off the Gold Coast of Cyrodiil, in the Abecean Sea.[1] Initially settled by the Ayleids and legendary for being where the All Flags Navy was founded,[2] it has since after been used by pirates for settling disputes through trial by combat.[3] Though claimed at times by Valenwood, Cyrodiil, and Hammerfell, the uninhabited island is really a no-man's-land.[3] Its neutral status during the Interregnum made Vanus Galerion choose it as a meeting ground for the leaders of the Three Banners War to launch their attack on Coldharbour during the Planemeld, as organized by the guilds.[4]
GeographyEdit
The terrain of Stirk is a mix of shallow beaches on the northwest and southeast and rugged rocky hills in between, surrounded by jagged rocks. The coast is dotted with palm trees and Ayleid docks, while the Stirk Interior[4] is lightly forested by what appear to be acacias, along with other trees. The Portal Valley is found nestled in the mountains of the north-central part of the island. There are no known permanent settlements on the island.
HistoryEdit
The historic island was at one time colonized by the Ayleids, whose white limestone ruins dominate the tropical landscape. There are also dolmen-like Daedric pillars found on the island,[5] but it is unknown whether the Ayleids or some other civilization constructed them. In the First Era, it was where the leaders of Tamriel assembled the All Flags Navy to do battle with the Sload.[4] In the Second Era, although the island was claimed by Valenwood, the Gold Coast, and Hammerfell, it had little activity besides the pirates in the area, who used the Ayleid ruins as arenas for settling disputes through trial by combat.[3]
In 2E 582 a meeting took place here between the three leaders of the Three Banners War, as Stirk was considered neutral territory. The meeting was facilitated by the Fighters Guild and Mages Guild, and aimed to discuss a possible invasion of Coldharbour in response to Molag Bal's attempted Planemeld. Before an agreement could be reached, Molag Bal sent Daedra to the island to kill the alliance leaders. The attackers were repelled, and the leaders quickly gave their consent for an invasion, having seen the Prince's influence firsthand. A force was then assembled from the ranks of the two guilds, and a portal to Coldharbour was opened on the island.[6]
The island was considered by the Empire to be Cyrodiil's territory in 2E 864,[7] but by the late Third Era, the island appeared to be unaffiliated with any province on certain maps.[8]
CultureEdit
Stirk Pork-And-Beets is a gourmet dish named after the island. It is a type of stew containing pork, beets, herbs, and bananas.[9]
