"The Tamrielic word for the divinely rich child of rot, silky, pressed sour milk is … cheese. The Old Redguard word for it is mluo. Tell me, if you were a poet fluent in both languages, which word would you use?"
—Weltan on his choice to write in Old Redguard, excerpted from The Alik'r written by Enric Milres.

Weltan was a Redguard poet and historian from the mid-Second Era.[1][Note 1] As a native of Sentinel, much of his work pertains to his home, the Alik'r Desert, and his affection for it. Weltan wrote in the original Redguard language of Yoku but is also fluent in Tamrielic. He was friends with another author named Enric Milres who wrote about his experience with him and his first time in the Alik'r Desert in the book, The Alik'r.[1] In his works, which includes the Epode of the Ansei Wards and On the Immortality of Dust, he is credited as Weltan of Sentinel.[2][3]

Weltan is originally from the city-state of Sentinel and has spent much of his career writing several poems about the Alik'r Desert and its history. These poems have been translated into Tamrielic and compiled into books. Some people, like fellow author Enric Milres from the Imperial City, believed they learned much about the region from just his poems.[1]

At some point, the two met in a small tavern in Sentinel, where they bonded over their worldly experiences and writings. Even when Enric read all his poems and felt he had a strong understanding of the desert, Weltan believed that no poem or writing could express its splendor and grandeur. He convinced him to experience it for himself. Enric wandered the region for two years[1] and decided to move to Sentinel,[4] where he wrote about his meeting with Weltan and his journey through the desert in his book, The Alik'r.[1]
