Lore talk:Zainab Camp

FeedbackEdit

Yeah, my instinct would be that this page does not need to be here. The Morrowind:Zainab Camp page is justified, but I don't think we need another one in Tamriel namespace. The only game-specific locations that I think should be included in Tamriel are major cities and possibly some smaller but still-significant towns. Thus, Lore:Balmora and Lore:Sadrith Mora make sense, but the camps are too minor to bother with. Just my 2 cents. --TheRealLurlock 10:20, 4 October 2006 (EDT)

I don't know why we have multiple pages on the same subject. Editors should pick the Tamriel namespace if their subject has notability in multiple games (ex. Atronach, Nerevarine, Daedra). Redirects should then exists in every game namespace that has the article's subject to prevent creation and to help readers find material. Editors should pick one of the game namespaces if the subject has little to no influence in any of the other games (ex. Cliff Racers, Hla Oad, Balmora). Again, redirects are your friend.
It's not too big of a deal, it's just something I've had on my mind for a while. Feel free to move this to the community portal if you want to pursue this topic any further. --Aristeo 14:32, 5 October 2006 (EDT)
All right. So we can't even agree if Balmora should exist in the Tamriel namespace. Remember, I said I'd rework these ashlander pages, so best is that whatever is decided, that 4-5 people don't start editing them now. :) What I really wanted to know, however, is that why are there separate pages of "camp" and "tribe" for each 4? I'd like to delete all the camp pages (in both namespaces) and put all the info for each tribe in just one document. Those pages would exist in the Morrowind namespace. I do think that at least big places, even if game-specific, should also have general information about them in the Tamriel namespace. --FMan 16:06, 5 October 2006 (EDT)
The question of what belongs in the Tamriel namespace is definitely tricky. I think there are many cases right now where Tamriel pages are unneeded, but a general discussion on the topic is probably more appropriate at the community portal.
As for the specific question on "camp" and "tribe", I would say that in Tamriel only one page is needed. It might actually be most appropriate to have the single page just be, e.g., "Zainab" (move "Zainab Tribe" to "Zainab", merge whatever info is missing from "Zainab Camp", then delete it. If the move isn't allowed (because "Zainab" already exists as a redirect), just find an admin on IRC and we can fix it).
The complication is then the Morrowind pages, where the "tribe" and "camp" pages are being formatted differently, and each is transcluding the Tamriel page. I would vote that the content at Tamriel:camp just be copied into the Morrowind:camp page, instead of transcluding. Unless others feel that the two Morrowind pages can also be combined into one; I don't have an opinion on two vs one in Morrowind.
My final concern is one of "too many cooks": there seem to be alot of people editing these pages lately, and it's not clear to me at least that the edits are compatible. I wonder if it might be helpful for those who are interested in this project to find a time to all chat in IRC together and make sure that everyone is on the same page? Just an idea; maybe those of you involved in this don't find it as chaotic as it seems from the outside :) --Nephele 16:52, 5 October 2006 (EDT)
Thanks, Nephele. Actually I added the transclusion myself to the ones I edited yesterday, before starting to think this a bit further and stopping for others' comments. :) Where can I find a community portal? This namespace thing is perhaps the biggest controversy currently in this wiki. And it's been an on-going issue for a while now. We definitely need to reach a consensus, no matter what it is, because the current state where different editors are applying a different scheme cannot go on. I don't see it being discussed and decided that the Tamriel namespace should only have stuff that appears in more than one game - wouldn't this lead to the deletion of most Oblivion-related material currently in that namespace? My suggestion is that the Tamriel namespace contain information on geography, politics, economy, people and so on about all of Tamriel - regardless of a specific piece of information originating in, or if it is present, only in one game. The "too many cooks" thing is why I called shotgun on editing these pages for now. Once I'm finished, they can be processed further. There should be some kind of an arbitration method for assigning work. --FMan 17:43, 5 October 2006 (EDT)
Community Portal to answer the first question. As for a process to coordinate projects, that's is something Aristeo has talked about introducing (I admit, at the time I wasn't sure it was needed, but now I'm reconsidering). If you have any ideas on how to implement something like that, the community portal is probably the place for that, too. --Nephele 18:43, 5 October 2006 (EDT)
Regarding the merge of "Zainab Camp" and "Zainab Tribe", the latter is listed as a faction, while the first one is a place. However, looking in the CS, you only find the camp and the "Ashlander" faction, so it seems natural to merge "Zainab Tribe" into "Zainab Camp" and leave the existing "Ashlanders" faction page. --DrPhoton 03:34, 6 October 2006 (EDT)
Return to "Zainab Camp" page.
