Detailed WalkthroughEdit

A Double Agent Is YouEdit

After Ajum-Kajin dies at Modryn Oreyn's house in Chorrol, Modryn tells you the next step is to infiltrate the Blackwood Company and its ranks so you can discover the secret of their strength.

Jeetum-ZeEdit

Jeetum-Ze giving the orders

Travel to the Blackwood Company Hall in Leyawiin and speak to Jeetum-Ze about joining the Blackwood Company. He will be suspicious at first as he has heard of your exploits with the Fighters Guild. However he quickly shrugs it off, remembering that several guild members, such as Maglir, have defected to the company recently. Follow him to the Training Room to get your first mission: tackling some goblins that have overrun Water's Edge.

With your fellow company members lined up and ready to go, Jeetum-Ze hands you a special potion called Hist Sap. He will also explain its origin, telling you that the Hist comes from his homeland. If you ask whether the Company is involved in smuggling the sap, he will reveal they have supposedly brought a hist tree into Cyrodiil. After this he will instruct you to drink the potion and leave. As you cannot exit the basement (the door has a key-requiring lock), drink the sap and you will immediately receive a journal update saying that you feel a strange effect coming over you. You will then be transported directly to Water's Edge.

Goblin TroubleEdit

Now on the ground, assist the other company members in killing all of the goblins around the settlement. You may notice that the "goblins" don't really behave as expected: they do not attack you and appear broadly harmless.

Once all the goblins in the exterior are dead, one of the other Company members will tell you to clear out the houses as well. If you start to suspect what is really going on, you don't have carry out this order. If you instead run far enough from the settlement, you will be relocated to where Modryn is and may continue as described below.

Delusion and DeathEdit

After you have killed all of the "goblins" or have fled the scene, you will be transported to Modryn Oreyn's house. Speak to Modryn and he will tell you that his men found you unconscious in the streets of Leyawiin. Upon hearing your story he will be deeply concerned and will tell you to go back to Water's Edge to find out what really happened.

Head back to the village, which is along the road north of Leyawiin. You will find the town scattered with bodies, namely those of: Biene Amelion; Marie Alouette; Eduard Retiene and Jolie Retiene. It seems that under the influence of the Hist Sap, you and the other members took them for goblins and killed them. Find and speak to Marcel Amelion, the sole survivor, who is mourning the death of his daughter Biene.

Quest CompleteEdit

Return to Modryn Oreyn's house in Chorrol and speak to him to complete the quest. He assures you that the slaughter at Water's Edge was not your fault, and proceeds to explain the next step: taking down the Blackwood Company.

NotesEdit

  • Even though the "goblins" are supposed to be humans, they can still be soul trapped with ordinary soul gems.
  • If you are playing as an Argonian, the Hist sap will still affect you, despite the fact that Argonians are supposedly immune to the sap's effects. This may be due to the fact that it is considered "bad Hist sap from a sick tree" and thus would have abnormal effects. Modryn will comment that he is "a bit surprised it affected you the way it did, given your heritage". This bad sap theory is further supported by an Argonian being among the other members sent.
  • If you duplicate the sample of Hist Sap with the Skull of Corruption, the duplicate is flagged as a quest item and cannot be removed from your inventory. Consuming the copied sample teleports you to Water's Edge as a result of the item's script.
  • The company members are flagged as essential, so there is no option to kill them in place of the villagers.

BugsEdit

  • When returning to Water's Edge, the dead bodies may appear to drift backwards or may even have changed into sheep, sometimes even both.
  • It is possible that some of the Blackwood Company members who accompanied you to Water's Edge will remain in the settlement indefinitely.
  • If you knock out the three Blackwood Company Guards they will not appear at Water's Edge, and you can't continue with the quest.
  • If you are riding a horse when you are transported to Modryn's house, the horse will be transported with you still on top of it, becoming permanently stuck inside.
  • As none of them are marked as essential, Marie Alouette; Eduard Retiene and Jolie Retiene could die long before the quest only for you to have to kill their "goblin avatars" and for their corpses to reappear at the end of the quest.
    •   The Unofficial Oblivion Patch, version 3.4.0, addresses this issue. All are now marked as essential until the end of the quest.
  • After asking you to follow him to the training room, Jeetum-Ze may proceed to walk between the first and second landings of the staircase in a never ending cycle. ?
    •   Opening the command console, clicking on Jeetum-Ze and entering moveto player while on the ground floor should move Jeetum-Ze out of the loop to your location.
    • Casting a Demoralize spell on him, or engaging in combat and yielding may break him from the cycle.
    • Attacking and rendering Jeetum-Ze unconscious and then moving his body down the stairs will break him from the cycle.

I must return to Oreyn immediately.
100 Finishes quest  Oreyn was deeply troubled by what I told him, but realizes that there was little I could have done to prevent it. He believes it is time to end the Blackwood Company forever.
Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  •   It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage FGD08Infiltration stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
