Rays are hostile creatures that live within the in the snowy parts of High Rock, where it borders Hammerfell and Skyrim. In the world of Shadowkey, they can be found within the icy caverns of Glacier Crawl, along with the Ice Tribes. They resemble aquatic rays, but fly through the air instead. When attacking or defending themselves they will use their barbed stingers at the end of their tails, with which they lunge at their target, akin to a spear thrust.
There are three known varieties; Cavern Stingers, Shadowrays, and Snowrays. Cavern Stingers, which has gray-blue skin and dark spots, are the weakest. The Shadowray variant have a brown coloration and gloomy physical appearance. However, the Shadowray also has the ability to blind their opponents, which is unique among the Ray subtypes. The strongest of the known varieties is the Snowray, the most vibrant variant with bright green skin adorned with orange spots. A substance known as Snowray Powder can be harvested from their bodies, which is considered a valuable alchemical ingredient.

Cavern Stingers are the weakest and most common type of Snowray you can encounter. They appear exclusively in Glacier Crawl, usually in packs of three or four, interspersed with other Snowrays. They are sometimes nearby Ice Tribe warriors, although their allegiance, if any, to the mysterious ice creatures is unknown. Cavern Stingers, similar to the other types of Rays in Shadowkey have a higher than usual magic resistance than most other creatures, being that of 10, so the ideal method of dealing with them would be by using melee or unenchanted ranged weapons.

Shadowrays are the second type of Ray you may encounter, and are slightly more powerful than Cavern Stingers. Unlike Cavern Stingers and Snowrays, Shadowrays seem to be more isolationist, usually only appearing on their lonesome in Glacier Crawl. However, don't be fooled by their initial appearance, they more than make up for it with their high level, level 10 Blindness spell and increased stats overall. The blindness spell will reduce your visibility, and reduce your combat effectiveness overall, so it is recommended that you finish off the Shadowrays before you get a pack of Rays following you. Their behavior is similar to other Rays, and they are only able to attack (and deliver the blindness spell) if you get close enough to them and their stinger, so previous advice for dealing with Rays applies here also.

Snowrays are the strongest type of Ray. Similar to Cavern Stringers, they can appear in packs of three or four, usually interspersed with Cavern Stingers. Their increased stats make them more of a challenge when in a pack, but alone they aren't too hard to deal with as long as you keep your distance. On death they can drop the alchemical ingredient, Snowray Powder, which provides Immunity to all special attacks for 30 seconds - useful for dealing with the Shadowrays' Blindness effect.
