Quick WalkthroughEdit
- Read The Crimson Dirks, v4 at the bottom floor of Candlehearth Hall.
- Defeat Ulfnir Bone-Skin at Yorgrim Overlook and take his key.
- Claim the set of studded Dragonscale armor.
Detailed WalkthroughEdit
In order to start the quest, you need to read The Crimson Dirks, v4 in Candlehearth Hall. It recalls a tale where a young Bosmer named Fathrys had hoped to wed Zaharia. She dismissively rejected him by saying that she would only accept him if he were to give her a dragon scale. Hearing this, the drunken bandit mage Antonius regaled an old Nord legend where the warrior Ulfnir Bone-Skin slew the dragon Vithrelnaak, fashioning armor from his scales and ultimately burying it with him. Antonius claims that Ulfnir's corpse protects this armor through death in the barrow near Yorgrim Overlook.
With this, the quest directs you to Yorgrim Overlook to investigate. When you reach the overlook, you will find the lifeless skeleton of Fathrys holding his Poem for Zaharia. You will be attacked by two generic skeletons and the skeleton of Ulfnir Bone-Skin himself. Defeat them and loot the Overlook Key. With it, you can unlock the gate.
Claim the Studded Dragonscale Armor, Studded Dragonscale Boots, Studded Dragonscale Gauntlets, and Studded Dragonscale Helmet from the chest. With this quest completed and the Dragon Armor perk, you will be able to craft more Studded Dragonscale items.
NotesEdit
- If Yorgrim Overlook is visited before you have read the book, the two skeletons will still attack you, but neither Fathrys' nor Ulfnir's skeletons will be there. Defeating the two skeletons will clear the location. The gate can still be unlocked and the chest looted, but there will be no Dragonscale armor. If the quest is attempted after doing this, Fathrys and Ulfnir will appear as normal and the armor will be added to the chest.
- By clearing Yorgrim Overlook and unlocking the gate before reading The Crimson Dirks, v4, you will be able to easily retrieve the armor and complete the quest without defeating Ulfnir.
- Regular Dragonscale armor starts appearing in leveled lists at level 46, but this creation's quest can be completed by characters of any level for its armor set.
- Yorgrim Overlook is also the ruin just across and upslope from the small Dark Seducer camp that's just off the road and one of the first locations in the Saints and Seducers Quest line.

- Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g.,
<Alias=LocationHold>
) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game. - Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
