Dragonborn shoutsEdit

Is there a specific reason why the Dawnguard shouts are included on this page but the Dragonborn ones aren't?

Dbbolton (talk) 03:53, 18 August 2013 (GMT)

Yes. It was decided by consensus to give Dragonborn its own namespace, and therefore, most common game elements are also divided by namespace. Dawnguard was not given its own namespace, so they are on this page. That being said, we have, on a case-by-case basis, merged some Skyrim and DB pages. These pages might be a good candidate for merging, since this article isn't particularly long, and the DB shouts page is quite short. If you want the community to consider this, you could add {{Merge|Dragonborn:Dragon Shouts}} to the top of the article. If you do this, be sure to give your reasons on this talk page. --Xyzzy Talk 04:29, 18 August 2013 (GMT)
All the shouts should be on one page.--Devilush (talk) 21:06, 27 August 2013 (GMT)
I agree that they should all be visible on one page. Maybe someone could transclude the DB shouts to this page? --Xyzzy Talk 13:39, 30 September 2013 (GMT)

Bug (unlocking shouts)Edit

I can't seem to unlock any new dragon shouts, I have 9 dragon souls and I've been trying to get Marked for death and Whirlwind sprint but It says I need to have dragon souls but I have 9! Is there any way to fix this? I'm currently playing on the xbox 360. Xxgreenbunnyxx (talk) 10:31, 20 August 2013‎

Can't seem to activate any of the dragon shouts I've found (Bend Will & dragon Aspect) for the Dragonborn series, I have plenty of souls (26) and am playing on the PS3 DLC version. — Unsigned comment by 192.226.157.178 (talk) at 19:20 on 16 November 2013‎
Suddenly it is the same for me, except for one time when I accidentally did not accept it (accidentally chose "No") and now I can't unlock them again (I have 6 souls, only 3 that can be unlocked...well, they can't but anyways, 3 that should be able to be unlocked...) -- so clearly it is a glitch/bug.
I'm on the Xbox and this hasn't happened before. It's after I installed the New Homes thingie Skyrim:Hearthfire, but not the latest patch. It has always worked before, even with Heartfire... Strange... I was hoping to get answers here. Thanks for any tips, in advance. (edited again, sorry) :-) Tockenen 04:23, 21 January 2014 (GMT)

Same Audio FilesEdit

I've noticed that Nords,Imperials and Argonians have the same "Voice" File's for there shouts. Were the Guys at Bethseda to lazy ti give the argonians a unique voice file or is it a bug? Dunehelm (talk) 00:12, 23 August 2013 (GMT)

I think female Argonians have a unique one86.157.147.7 13:31, 17 May 2014 (GMT)
What's really strange is what they did with elven females. Female elves have the same voice files as human females for shouts, except for the Dawnguard shouts. They have a unique voice type for those shouts only--they even use the human female voice files for the Dragonborn DLC shouts. The male elf shouts have completely separate voice files from the male humans, though. Anyway, maybe it's worth clarifying this under the "Notes" section?
Regarding whether or not it's a bug: Maybe Bethesda just had some messed up scheduling conflicts with the voice actors and they didn't get all of the voices recorded, hence the reuse of human voice files for some of the other genders/races. Who knows. Dukesilver (talk) 22:52, 26 June 2014 (GMT)

Recharge timesEdit

I play on the PS3, legendary edition, no unofficial content at all. All my shouts have different recharge times than the ones listed on your pages. All of them are several points lower. I figure it's either a bug, or the shouts recharge times get reduced as you gain levels; does any one else have this issue, and can they offer an explanation? 24.114.94.31 18:19, 11 September 2013 (GMT)

Were you wearing the Amulet of Talos or did you have the Blessing of Talos or Dragon Aspect shout active? --BlackhawkXIII (talk) 23:28, 11 September 2013 (GMT)

Can't Shout!!!Edit

YES I AM PRESSING THE KEY FOR THE SHOUT,I am not new player, this never happened before.. Let's be more specific, I started new playtrough, got the the quest when I fight first dragon, killed him, and absorbed his soul, and then guard asked me to shout, and when I try to shout, I hear player saying fus but nothing happen, and I do get shout cooldown. And all other normal powers seems to work fine, with old charater when I load it works, thinking that is only to my current save. I am on PC, and when I press shout button I hear player shout "FUS" but nothing happens!? Starting to thinks that maybe some mod screwed it up, but I don't use any mod that add or change shouts in game.

Someone had this, or simmiliar porblem, or have any idea how to solve it? — Unsigned comment by 109.93.118.84 (talk) at 18:10 on 15 September 2013

A lot of mods make unintended changes to the game. You'll need to unload any mods you added recently and going through them to see if any of them are responsible. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:25, 15 September 2013 (GMT)
A common problem is that basic game keys can become disabled or overridden. I had this problem and the simpler solution (given how hard it is to recover a working game after removing mods in mid-game) was to install More Hotkeys Please and use it for one thing only: to re-enable the Shouts/Powers key as Z (attempting to use it for other things ended up causing more problems than it solved). Actually I did end up using it later to re-enable the Magic quick-access key (set to Right Alt in my case) after that quit working in mid-game for some reason. But I leave the rest of MHP alone. I think the entire mod works fine in some mod loads, but it was very problematic in mine when used to override the game's usual keys. If you want your numpad to be separately hotkeyable, use AH Hotkeys; its MCM menu has an option to do this. That mod is mostly for assigning specific hotkeys to gear or spells, or sets thereof, and it won't fix the "broken shout key" problem; as far as I know, only MHP will do that, aside from manual futzing around in the ini files with DirectX keypress hex scancodes. — Darklocq  ¢ 03:03, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

Aura Whisper sectionEdit

So... could someone more knowledgeable about how the darn table works please fix the Aura Whisper section? It's not displaying properly. 72.42.155.45 03:51, 30 September 2013 (GMT)

I'm not sure what you're seeing, as it looks fine to me. I went ahead and purged both the individual page, and this one, to ensure that any transclusions are functioning properly, but it's possible that you're experiencing a caching issue which sometimes occurs for users who view pages without being logged into a registered account. It's a known issue the wiki has which hasn't been resolved. You could try a hard refresh on your browser to see if that makes it display properly, and if it doesn't, could you explain exactly what's wrong with the way it is displaying? (Also mention your browser if that's the case, as it may be browser-specific.) — ABCface 03:55, 30 September 2013 (GMT)

About durnehviir's multiple summon perkEdit

Hello I'm a new edition to this website however I have been using this website for important information and one thing in particular caught my attention that no one has yet to address, it says on the "dragon shouts" page located at the bottom regarding the "soul Carin summon" shout it mentions something about a possible perk that only durenhviir has called "multiple perk".I would like to know how comes no one has done any deep research into what makes it possible for him to have multiple summons. note: please only sensible comments and replies. — Unsigned comment by There born sqq (talkcontribs) at 14:07 on 30 September 2013‎

I'm not an expert at the cslist, but it looks like the perk is basically the same as the twin souls perk, and simply allows him to summon three summons, otherwise he'd be restricted to just one. --AN|L (talk) 17:31, 30 September 2013 (GMT)

What happens ifEdit

What happens if you learn the word of powers of a shout in incorect order. For exemple if after learning the first word of power of the shout you discover the third word of power location before the second's one. Will the shout glich? Or you wont be able to learn the third word of power? — Unsigned comment by Veacktor (talkcontribs) at 06:41 on 9 October 2013

As far as I've seen its impossible to do that, as the scripting only activates the next word in the shout, not a particular one, which is why only two/three walls have a set inscription on them; Bleak Falls Barrow, Shearpoint. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 13:45, 9 October 2013 (GMT)
Silencer's correct, the only other word wall that has a fixed word is the one at Dragonborn:Saering's Watch. However, Veacktor, would you please start signing your posts? I posted on your talk page about it. --Morrolan (talk) 14:05, 9 October 2013 (GMT)

Drain vitality glitchEdit

So I have three drain vitality shouts. One of which isn't included in the list of shouts. I play on xbox with the legendary edition, no mods. The one that's not on here, it's words are: kill, leech, suffer. And it drains 2 points of magica health and stamina per second for 20 seconds in one, and 1 point in the other. I also have the other drain vitality for stamina, magicka, health. Had anyone else had this happen? Please let me know. Thanks! — Unsigned comment by 69.197.222.33 (talk) at 05:16 on 30 May 2014

(PS3) Shouts sometimes don't workEdit

I've experienced this across numerous playthroughs and with a broad assortment of shouts. I can't find the common link between events, but sometimes when I go into battle (always during combat, never when I'm just wandering around) my shout refuses to work. I check the magic menu and verify that the shout is "equipped", and it is definitely off cooldown, but it just does nothing when I hit the button (R2). If I select a different shout in the menu and then re-select the original shout, it will then work. Frustrating bug when it only happens at the worst possible times.--73.27.2.20 11:23, 16 December 2014 (GMT)

Yes had it happen to me as well. Biffa (talk) 12:13, 17 December 2014 (GMT)

Can't shout when weapons are drawn?! Help?!Edit

In all my game saves, sometimes if I try to Shout with my weapons drawn, nothing happens. The game treats it like I am Shouting, but the Shout itself doesn't execute unless I sheathe my weapons. Can anyone help? — Unsigned comment by 65.185.145.37 (talk) at 15:12 on 17 March 2015 (GMT)

Happens to me too. This is especially a problem when I try to use Elemental Fury, because it requires you to have a weapon drawn. I try to use it, nothing happens. I sheathe my weapon, then it says I must have a weapon drawn. Nicholasemjohnson (talk) 19:08, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
Do you happen to have any mods installed that might affect your spells, weapons or shouts? —MortenOSlash (talk) 21:51, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Not Hearing Soul TearEdit

I have the three words, and when I use 1 or 2 of them everything is ok, he says Rii Vaah. But if I use the whole shout, he just says the first one. The shout works and has the effects like if I used the 3 words, but I just hear one. I tried to remove the shout and add it again by console, but nothing changed. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm a male Imperial, if this helps. Sorry about my english. — Unsigned comment by 177.6.188.221 (talk) at 22:34 on 23 June 2015‎

Mouse Programmed Buttons and Shouts Firing TimeEdit

Hi all! I have a Doubt related to Shouts and i can't find an answer, so I hope you can help (and why not, improve your "Shouts" Article).

I'm using a Programmable Mouse and im "macroing" some shouts to be accessed and used in a secuence. I did some macros to select a shout, fire it at max words and change to other power, and after some time i'm just using 2 macros: 1st for set a "Aura Whisper" at max range (3 words) and change next to "Vampiric Vision" (yup, im a Vampire xD), and 2nd for using with an "equiped Ring" (that gives me 0 Cooldown on Shouts while executing the script and then unequips and set it to normal after it) that uses "Slow Time" at max range, then uses "Become Ethereal" at max range, and then equips "Whirlwind spirit" but not use it (giving me the choice to keep on combat or retreat. That macro was done for an emergency, and it "hacks" the game a little. xD).

The problem comes when I try to optimize the scripts using the minimal delay on those secuences. I just find myself that not all Shouts needs the exact same time to fire them at Max Word. I can figure out that every "Max Grown Shout" have his total firing time split into 3 segments of time, and everytime you hold the "Powers Button" for the required amount time (or a fraction: less than X, more than X but less than Y, and More than Y) you "add" a word for that shout to be released. It's a problem because when you are comfortable with your programming button you use those scripts in mid of combat, while using other comands and moving, and some secuences may interact with your doing and do weird things if they take too much time to complete.

My exact Doubt is: Can I find a table, file or any sort of info about how many time do I need to hold my "Power Button" to set every word (and therefore a Max Powered Dragon Shout) for a shout in the minimal time?

Hope you can help.

Tip: If you have a Recharge Time for your souls of 0 secs (instant), you can still know how powerful your Shout was by paying atention to how many words of the shout your character said. Its recommended to practice a little with a shout to recognize every word, but not really hard.

Miraak Dragon SoulsEdit

There are variables in the game, viewable by typing "help soul", that seem to track how many Dragon souls Miraak has stolen. This probably equals the number of souls you get for killing him. Can someone verify this? The variables are "DLC2MiraakDragonSouls" and "DLC2SoulStealCount". — Unsigned comment by Gidelix (talkcontribs) at 15:09 on 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Just based on the Creation Kit (which may or may not be entirely accurate, as there are a few things the CK search won't find), the first one appears to be unused. The second one, DLC2SoulStealCount, however, does exactly what you suggest. I've changed the page appropriately.
Interestingly, it appears that the player can steal the soul back from Miraak if they manage to get him to the "bleeding out" state. I don't even know if that's possible, but the code is there to do it, at least. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:22, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
I don't think that's possible. Probably leftover code from an alternate finishing sequence or something. —Legoless (talk) 20:28, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
I just started a new character, so I'm in no position to test this right now, but I'm planning on leaving DB till later for this character, so I'll probably have suitable weapons and such. If it's possible to even attack him at all, I'll give it a try and see what happens. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:33, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Add Spell IDs of Available Dragon ShoutsEdit

Hi, everyone. I want to add a new column to Available Dragon Shouts, it's Spell ID.

One need these spell IDs when he/she want to cast a shout from console. Example:

  • player.cast 13f3a player voice: Unrelenting Force - Fus Ro Dah
  • player.cast 13f39 player voice: Unrelenting Force - Fus Ro
  • player.cast 13e09 player voice: Unrelenting Force - Fus

A mod [Dragonborn Speaks Naturally] allows player to invoke console commands via speech recognition. Combine with the player.cast command, one can use his/her voice to cast dragon shout. That will be cool.

However, he/she must first know spell IDs of these dragon shouts.

The spell IDs of a shout are completely different from the shout's ID and the IDs of its words of strength. And Different lengths of shouts are considered as different spells (A shout corresponds to three spells). We can find these spell IDs from CreationKit of Skyrim > Magic > Spell > Voice Power.

But lookup from CreationKit is inconvenient, so I want to record them here.

Then the question is:

  • I don't have the permission to edit this page.
  • This page uses a template to generate the "Available Dragon Shouts" table and I can't find where the template is placed.

I need your help. --SwimmingTiger (talk) 13:23, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

The template draws its info from the individual shout pages, and specifically the infobox templates on them. In order to change this page you would need to edit the actual templates and then the shout pages to include this info. However, with each shout having three separate spells depending on how many words are used, I think that is too much information to try and convey here (as we already exclude the individual word ids). I think this would benefit the shout pages, as the info on each level of shout (their strengths and durations). Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 14:19, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for your advice. I will try to add it to each shout's page instead of this table.--SwimmingTiger (talk) 14:35, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

I have lost wordsEdit

Playing the Legendary Edition on XBOX 360. I had all 3 words for Fire Breath, but now, I have only the first. I suspect I've lost others, but I KNOW I had these.

I'm suspicious it happened when I installed the add-ons, which I didn't do until after I'd beaten the main storyline of Skyrim, but I'm not sure. It was my favorite Shout, but I played without using it for a while, then when I picked it up again, it was weak.

I've been to talk to Arngeir many times, hoping that he'll give me the location to re-learn them, but so far, no such luck. Also journeyed to talk to Paarthurnax, who will let me change which word I am meditating on, but doesn't return the missing words to me.

[EDIT] Arngeir sent me to Sunderstone Gorge as one of the random Shout locations, and the 2nd word of Fire Breath was there. It was marked as unvisited on my map. I'm pretty sure I had cleared this place much, much earlier in the game, before adding the expansions.

Isn't the Drain Vitality shout quest locked?Edit

Unless I'm missing something here, the Drain Vitality shout should be marked as (quest locked) on the Dragon Shouts page, considering you need to start the Dawnguard quest "Awakening" to access it, right? — Unsigned comment by Metalblade (talkcontribs) at 20:09 on 24 June 2020 (UTC)

Provided no one disagrees, I have marked two of the words as being quest locked on the Drain Vitality page (which has caused this page to be updated as well). --O-a11y Talk 22:16, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

NPCs that can shoutEdit

Can someone add Hakon One-Eye, Gormlaith Golden-Hilt, Felldir the Old, and Tsun to the list of NPCs that can shout in the Notes section? Other than that the current list is accurate and up to date.
