MarriageEdit

Where is the marriage details on the talk page? I was going to figure out if it was true or not but I can't find the details. I0brendan0 (talk) 23:46, 27 April 2014 (GMT)

It's been archived. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 23:56, 27 April 2014 (GMT)
Ok so does it still need the verification? Cause I'm still able and willing to postpone marriage to check it out. I0brendan0 (talk)
The discussion was archived but the tag remains on the page. I don't think its entirely clear whats possible, so some detailed research would be of great benefit so others can replicate and confirm. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 23:31, 28 April 2014 (GMT)

Serana as a stewardEdit

I was curious, because I have both Dawnguard and Hearthfire, if Serena can become a steward in a homestead house. If she can, will she infect the other inhabitants with vampirism? Or is it a better choice to cure her first?--Mixer989 (talk) 16:42, 5 May 2014 (GMT)

Serana has no steward dialogue, and can't become a steward. The only Dawnguard characters who can are all members of the Dawnguard; I believe it's all the Dawnguard NPC followers. See Skyrim:Personal Steward#Followers Who Can Become Stewards for details. --Morrolan (talk) 04:45, 13 July 2014 (GMT)

Reactions to Daedric ShrinesEdit

Serana was with me when I was doing the quest A Daedra's Best Friend, and when we arrived in front of Clavicus Vile's image, she went on her knees to it and said something -- I'm not sure what. I have also read somewhere that if you take her to the shrine of Molag Bal in The House of Horrors, she will prostrate herself before it, but I don't remember where I saw that. Does she react to any other Daedric shrines? 174.6.51.17 07:40, 6 May 2014 (GMT)

Serana is unique in the fact that she will interact with everything. For example, when you activate the shrine of molag bal, you will cower on the ground as the onyx spikes form a cage around you, serana will perform the same action because she interacts with the altar, the cage does not show, but she performs the action.
Another example is Ri'saad (I think that's how you spell it) sitting in his tent in the caravan, you cannot physically sit like this in the game because there is no activate button allowing you to do so, however NPC's can 'see' the activate button and sit in that spot, Serana is the only follower that interacts with the world around her, so she can interact with anything, sometimes this can result is strange and rather hilarious situations where she interacts with a spot that is meant for a child. --1.121.166.81 11:44, 10 July 2014 (GMT)
On the note of Serana reacting with the world, I was once at Lakeview manor, and she was following me. I wanted to get to a small settlement like Dagonsbridge, so I approached the carriage driver and hired him, but when I mounted the carriage, nothing happened. The carriage driver kept saying things like, "Hurry up!" and "Come on!" I then noticed that Serana had started mining the stone quarry, so I wondered if that was what was keeping me from traveling, but I was never able to confirm it. Does anyone else know about this? Can anyone confirm it? -- Sees-the-Stars (talk) 19:27, 13 July 2014 (GMT)

Serana is invincibleEdit

There is a bug on her page that says if you take her back to dimhollow then she will be immune to damage.

I went back to dimhollow well before i got her back as a follower because i forgot necromantic healing, then when i got her as a follower she had invincibility, so should be bug be changed to simply returning there with or without her.

Also when i say invincibility i do not mean she is essential, i mean no damage can be done to her, exactly the same as knight-paladin Gelebor. Attacks go through her, moving into her will not cause her to move and shouts and magic pass through her. While this is actually quite good as she can be an invincible distraction, she can easily trap you in a room. I play on PS3 so i cannot fix it, but i know PC players can use setghost 0 to fix the problem.

PS: does anyone know why returning there sets ghost to 1 (true), is it so nothing can damage her while she is trapped in the stone chamber. --1.121.166.81 11:44, 10 July 2014 (GMT)

Unclear WordingEdit

In the article, under the sub heading Curing Serana's Vampirism, there are a couple of sentences that say, "If you tell her that her vampirism makes you uncomfortable, she will criticize you for being self-centered and refuse to ever discuss the cure again. If you pick more tactful dialogue options, you can convince her to go see Falion." To me, this is extremely unclear, and not very helpful in telling players what to say to actually convince Serana to become human. What are these tactful dialogue options. I've never personally succeeded in getting her to do it, but if someone else could put the dialogue options onto the page, it would probably improve it immensely. -- Sees-the-Stars (talk) 19:19, 13 July 2014 (GMT)

Yeah, you're right. Next time I play Dawnguard, I'll keep a record of the options I took. I think there's more than one possible combination of options to get her to become human, but it would be helpful to have an example there. --Morrolan (talk)
Alright, I did this. However the conversation text is sorta huge. How do other people think it should be added to the page? I would normally make a subpage, i.e. something like Skyrim:Serana/Curing Vampirism Example Conversations but I've never seen that usage here on this wiki. If anyone wants to see the text it's on my notes page in userspace, User:Morrolan/Notes#Serana: Curing Vampirism conversation options. --Morrolan (talk) 00:36, 9 August 2014 (GMT)
I think adding a section to the article will be fine in this case. Having dealt with lots of dialogue it doesn't seem that huge to me :P —<({QT>> 00:45, 9 August 2014 (GMT)
Alright, that's done. Now it's about half of the page. Maybe someone should go through and start adding some of her other dialogue so my edit doesn't seem so conspicuous. :) --Morrolan (talk) 15:51, 11 August 2014 (GMT)
Wait was'nt her Quest Dialog already there before hand though? Dunehelm (talk) 01:52, 19 August 2014 (GMT)

() No, just her combat dialogue. Which is still there of course. --Morrolan (talk) 20:56, 24 August 2014 (GMT)

Possible BugEdit

I have noted in gameplay that if I command her to chop firewood, it will not appear in her inventory, even though she does perform the task. I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a quest getting in the way, but it may be worth noting. -- Sees-the-Stars (talk) 01:54, 24 July 2014 (GMT)

Did you give her a Woodcutter's Ax? ~ Ad intellige (talk) 03:06, 24 July 2014 (GMT)
No, I didn't think to. She automatically brings one out like any other follower. I'll try giving her one and see if it fixes it. -- Sees-the-Stars (talk) 17:07, 24 July 2014 (GMT)
I gave her an axe, and it still didn't do anything. I may also note that when you command her to chop wood, she will never stop unless you exit the command mode. I wonder if this is because the chopping cycle tells you to stop when you acquire 6 firewood, but since she never does, she just keeps going. -- Sees-the-Stars (talk) 17:10, 24 July 2014 (GMT)
She doesn't gain ore from mining either. Not really a bug, though. --Morrolan (talk) 16:43, 27 July 2014 (GMT)
For me, she refuses to even try mining. She keeps saying "I can't do everything for you" and stuff like that. I guess you could just mark it as a unique symptom she has from being a quest add-on character, but I wonder if this is the same for other vampire or Dawnguard followers included with the add-on. -- Sees-the-Stars (talk) 03:13, 28 July 2014 (GMT)

() Yeah, likewise. She will mine on her own sometimes though. If she has an Ancient Nordic Pickaxe, she whips it out to mine with too. --Morrolan (talk) 17:56, 28 July 2014 (GMT)

It might be due to her ai that has her interacting with objects by herself. Maybe those scripts have overwritten the normal woodchopping one. -- Valadez   Talk  Contributions  18:05, 28 July 2014 (GMT)

Additional Followers?Edit

Something's happened that the game no longer acknowledges her as my companion, and so I can bring along a second follower in addition to her. I think this started in the Companion's quest line when Vilkas insists on going with you to avenge Kodlak. It said my companion had been replaced, but Serana stayed with me. Now I can invite a second companion at any time.

The only problem is, occasionally the two will get into fights with eachother, usually only stopping once I've brought Serana to one knee.

This happen to anyone else? 99.224.46.100 00:18, 25 August 2014 (GMT)

I had this happen to me once. It was on a heavily glitch-laden save that I gave up on though. --Morrolan (talk) 03:37, 25 August 2014 (GMT)
She joined me after I did the two DB initiates glitch. I think I accidentally pressed the wrong dialogue option and she joined me without a problem. Sometimes the game gets really laggy when the three of them raises dead bodies and conjures things with the staves I give them. They fight A LOT but I found that using Ash Shell from Dragonborn on them both easily stops their brawl. Comes in handy when you want them to so the dirty work since they're all essential. -- Arriviste (talk) 12:22, 27 August 2014 (GMT)
This happened to me in my first and only play-through. I had Legendary Edition installed from the beginning and had played the Dawnguard questline up to the point of needing the Elder Scroll (dragon). I had completed the Soul Cairn portion. I then completed the Companions quests, married Farkas and was able to have him as a second follower thereafter.
I dismissed Farkas once, recruited Vilkas to make him a steward, then recruited Farkas as a follower again, still with Serana in tow. I don't know if it's a bug or a feature of the edition but I never attempted the methods for getting two followers as described on Serana's character page.
The only problem I've had so far is I accidentally hit a guard during a vampire raid and Farkas must have become hostile to me (though he never attacked me) and Serana killed him. 166.137.8.124 07:16, 4 September 2014 (GMT)Libelle
I am pretty sure it's just a glitch that happens. If you wanted to, you could dismiss her to just have one follower. If not, I'd consider that bug since you can't rid yourself of her. Personally, I enjoy having three followers when I don't want to do all the work myself. I just built my final house, though, and I was wondering if you dismiss her specifically will she be able to be recruited again along with the other two DB initiates still in the party? -- Arriviste (talk) 02:06, 9 September 2014 (GMT)

Sneak position bug fix - moved from articleEdit

Fast traveling in sneak mode will reset her disposition.

This addition to the article is unclear. Is this a restatement of the previous note, which says that "changing instance" (fast-traveling) in sneak will fix her being stuck in a crouch, or that using the above-mentioned fix will somehow affect her disposition? --Xyzzy Talk 19:16, 18 September 2014 (GMT)

Thanks but you ignore the fact that people do not understand your elevated terms. Like "instance". People understand "fast travel" though. — Unsigned comment by 174.119.122.54 (talk) at 05:32 on 22 September 2014‎
Good thing you're here to clarify it for us. Since "instance" could mean fast-travel or change zones, the technical term is more correct. I will make it more clear in the article to prevent future misunderstanding, though. Thanks for your input. --Xyzzy Talk 06:27, 22 September 2014 (GMT)

Disposition with SeranaEdit

Does Serana's disposition with the player (as in, the relationship rank that you can see with getrelationshiprank player comman) ever change during the quests? During the questline, I selected only the nice options and don't think I got her mad at any point or anything (even though for some reason I missed the "loneliness"-talk that unlocks the marriage dialogue, fixed that later by opening the loneliness dialogue again with the setpapyrusquestvar etc command), but the getrelationshiprank player has always returned 0 (Acquaintance)? It looks like many of her dialogue options are unlocked by just selecting specified text strings during the course of the dialogues and no matter what you do she seems to like you in the end, so is she an NPC which's relationshiprank value doesn't change during the quests at all? Myrmidon (talk) 02:10, 2 January 2015 (GMT)

Serana Usable in other questsEdit

At the end of the Quest Awakening, Serana begins following you and the only way to remove her is to do the quest Bloodline. As a result she is usable in other quests. At any of the other points that she is follower, does she do this? 5.80.69.119 20:43, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

After Bloodline is completed, Serana stops being a regular quest follower (except for a short period at the end of Beyond Death). She volunteers as a permanent follower at the beginning of Prophet, and is available as a permanent follower from then on and so can be used in any quest, although not with another permanent follower at the same time. The Dawnguard quests from Chasing Echoes on (except for Seeking Disclosure) require her to be present as a permanent follower. There is a glitch during Chasing Echoes where it is possible to recruit a second permanent follower along with her; you can keep both followers with you until you either do a quest which forces permanent followers to return home or cure Serana of vampirism (as she quits being a follower when she does this; in order to re-recruit her after she has become mortal you have to dismiss your second follower). --Morrolan (talk) 19:34, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

Serana Dissapeared and I can't find herEdit

When I was in Solsthiem and I went inside Tel Mithryn that's when I noticed she dissapeared. Can someone tell me how to fix this bug? — Unsigned comment by Mai'q The Liar (talkcontribs) at 10:41 on 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Usually these pages just document bugs and the talk pages are for discussion about what is going to be put on the pages or not. For game support like this I would recommend our forums. If the bug is not already mentioned on these pages, you may wish to add the bug. That is if there is unlikely the bug is caused by a mod or an unofficial patch, or if the bug is not added another place, such as the page for the place it happened. (In you case it probably happened in Tel Mithryn.) —MortenOSlash (talk) 14:34, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
Serana's tendency to wander around has been discussed here in the past, and I think there's already a section in notes on the main page that may help. However the advice essentially boils down to, wait and see if she turns up. Also try fast traveling back to Skyrim, that often causes followers to reappear. Also, look for her on the ground floor of Tel Mithryn, because followers often fall off the ledge after levitating up and are found kneeling there. --Morrolan (talk) 13:09, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

What is the refid to serana's drainlife spell?Edit

xx011f32 isn't working, and that is the only one I have found. Anyone know this? Thanks 73.189.28.2 23:16, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

There are several Drain Life spells intended for Serana, with the ID's of DG011f2c, DG011f2f, DG011f30, DG011f31, DG011f32, and DG011f33. I don't know which one she actually uses, it may depend on your level.
And it's a BaseID rather than RefID, since RefID's are only for objects placed directly in the game world ;-) -- SarthesArai Talk 14:13, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

More dialogue requestedEdit

I don't see all of Serana's combat dialogue such as noticing enemies and looking for/losing track of enemies, and the rest of her non-quest dialogue is nowhere to be found.

Serana's leveled spells are glitchedEdit

So my character's level 50 and I decided to pick up Serana as a follower and noticed all her spells are quite weak. She still uses Ice Spike, Lightning Bolt and Raise Zombie.

Something peculiar I noticed is when I try to fix this via console, she does not possess any of the spells listed above but actually the leveled version (Ice Storm, Chain Lightning, Revenant). I know this because you cannot add these spells to her as she already knows them, and when you use "removespell" the console does recognize she has these spells (Otherwise it'll say Serana does not have these spells). I used the following ID's, Ice Storm(02014cc6), Chain Lightning(7d99c) and Revenant(101060) if anyone wants to check. However, in combat she will still use the lower leveled spells that are supposedly not in her spell list.

According to the Dawnguard Unofficial Patch, Serana's leveling script throws numerous errors in the Papyrus logs due to several missing properties. This change may not take affect if you've already met Serana.

I've tried resetAI and disable/enable. Waiting 24 hours after the patch without her as follower. She will still use lower leveled spells despite having only the higher level versions in her spell list. Just thought I should put this out there. — Unsigned comment by 60.198.40.56 (talk) at 06:59 on 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Many spellcasting followers have spells their AI never activates. Serana's not particularly unusual in this. --Morrolan (talk) 19:25, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
Just add the vanilla version of Ice Storm to her via console. This will solve the problem. PS: Check the same question in Archive 6. Penuser (talk) 09:43, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

Serana's refid is incompletely listed.Edit

The correct refid to use if you wanted to move to her or move her to you is: 2002b74. — Unsigned comment by 108.213.68.113 (talk) at 21:35 on 24 July 2016 (UTC)

The first two digits are left blank on purpose, since their value depends on the load order of any mods or add-ons you have installed. For Serana, it depends on Dawnguard's position in your load order, so it isn't a set value. Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 21:56, 24 July 2016 (UTC)

Serana's AgeEdit

When first freeing Serana you can ask her how long she's been sealed she says: "Empire? What... what Empire?" "Cyrodiil is the seat of an Empire?" "I must have been gone longer than I thought. Definitely longer than we planned."

After checking (Lore:Second_Empire) and checking the length of all 4 eras this implies that she has been sealed for over 1747 years. This alone would be quite something- but as soon as she nears the gate of her father's castle, she is recognized by the Watchman. He doesn't even seem very surprised to see her.

In addition to the Watchman, Vingalmo, Feran Sadri, Hestla(though she only remarks on the scroll) and Serana's father, Lord Harkon, recognize her.

Even looking past how old they must be they really don't come across as very surprised given the amount of time that's elapsed. I'd be surprised if they even remembered what she looked like after that time. — Unsigned comment by Bushwhacker (talkcontribs) at 19:41 on 12 May 2017

That comment is ambiguous enough that it could be interpreted to be any period that there was no Empire, which could even have been as recent as the middle of the 2nd era, but is more commonly interpreted as before the first Empire (1E 243)(there is no way that she would not have known of its existence given it ruled part of Skyrim and fought for the other parts). However, it is her other comment about the Dwarves being phrased to imply that she thinks they "still exist" that dates her much more accurately to at least before 1E 700. However, all this does is date the time of her imprisonment, there is no way to know how long she lived before that point. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:37, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
Also, she's striding into the castle carrying an Elder Scroll. Should be obvious who she is. —Legoless (talk) 20:11, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
For all we know, they've been alive for tens of thousands of years, so the thousands of years she's been gone might not seem like such a big thing for them. Of course, we'll ignore the fact that Serana is speaking the same language as the PC 3750+ years later (from at least 1E 700, per Silencer). We'll just say it's one of those rare languages that never suffered from linguistic drift...over ~4000 years...without so much as a slight vowel pronunciation difference...yeeeeaaaaah. :P One wonders if the door guard has been a door guard that whole time. Seems like it would get a bit boring after the first thousand years or so. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:50, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Making Marriage Dialogue Option AppearEdit

I saw in the archives that some people were not getting the marriage dialogue option to appear after finishing the DLC. This might be because you also never got the loneliness dialogue option. You can make it appear at the end of the play-through by using the console command: "SetPapyrusQuestVar DLC1NPCMentalModel MentionedLoneliness_var 2". This should make the loneliness dialogue option available, so you can through it and then wear an Amulet of Mara. You should now be able to ask Serana about marriage and get the expected answer.--188.74.64.40 21:48, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

No option to 'follow me' after asking her to 'wait here'Edit

We've just left the Glacial Crevice in the Touching the Sky quest. Asked her to wait while I tried something, but now she's stuck waiting. I've got an option for 'I think we should part ways' to which she replies "I disagree" but there's no option to get her to go with me. Have tried: (1) saving & exiting (2) going back into Glacial Crevice. Neither worked. Had to reload from a save to get her moving again. About the hood bugEdit

I play Skyrim SE with the latest patches and no mods on PC. I never encountered that bug with the game adding more and more hoods to her until I gave her a wedding wreath for fun. It was the first time I ever gave her headwear at all; she equipped it and started racking up surplus hoods until I took the wreath back and removed the stack of hoods via console. Since then, the hood behaves normally again, so I guess that glitch may come up if she equips headwear, or possibly just headwear with no armor rating.
