Skyrim Vampires.

the current page describes the vamprism as more or less the same as oblivion which is wrong, the vampires are different in skyrim. if you were to check out elderscrolls wiki which this wiki has collaborated with before, you will see better information on the skyrim vampires. 86.177.203.240 17:01, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

I wrote most of that page and it is only to get the basic info and format down. We dont really need all of that info at the moment because once the game comes out, in literally a few hours, we can add all the needed info by using our own words and by using the creation kit/ construction set. I appreciate you adding all that info, but it's kind of unnecesarry right now.RIM 17:05, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
(e/c) If you want to add individual pieces of information, in your own words, you're free to do so. Copying and pasting an entire page from another site, however, is plagiarism. Furthermore, the information you added was filled with non-information such as statements about how vampirism worked in Oblivion, "There is no information on what happens after this yet", "The same may hold true for Skyrim", etc. Those types of statements reduce the usefulness of the article, rather than improving it. --NepheleTalk 17:07, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

ok but i only copied and pasted itt as a template,i didn't mean to plagiarise as i said the source rather than claim i wrote it. any way i added some more info, hope it suffices 86.177.203.240 17:11, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

The Cure

Once you are afflicted with vampirism, there will be a new rumour at the bars telling you that Falion (I think thats his name) in Morthal is studying vampires. this starts the quest for the cure which requires a filled black soul gem (he'll give you an empty one and also sells a soul trap spell book). He then asks you to meet him at a stone circle north of town at dawn. he performs a ritual and poof, no more vampirism. unknown if this is repeatable.69.255.57.130 08:05, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

also unlike lycanthropy, you can become a vampire again. 86.179.19.85 20:52, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

I was wondering about the cure at the Hall of the Vigilant. I went there and just got attacked. They didn't offer any cure at all. Could someone elaborate on the circumstance involved to get them to cure you.

Contracting Vampirism

If one uses a shield while "fighting" vampires, does that negate or lessen the chance of contracting Sanguinare Vampiris? 74.240.233.96 04:35, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Nevermind, I figured it out. One can only gain Sanguinare Vampiris when hit with a Vampiric Drain spell. 74.240.233.96 06:31, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Beautiful Esthetics

I must say Bethesda made the Vampires look so much better in Skyrim, they no longer look like sickley old people and look menacing and with vampire fangs as well! Awesome stuff. Although the fact that everyone attacks me when im 100% vampire is quite annoying but not as annoying as being damaged for being in the sun in Oblivion XD "I dont like those eyes of yours" lawl

sun damage was manageable(because you could heal with a decent spell) but being weakened by the sun is a serious disadvantage as you cannot regenerate without aid but i like them both. The Appearance is much better, i just like those black eyes with red/yellow irises. shame there was no bonuses to the one/two handed weapon skills though. what is bad about vampires besides the lack of physical bonuses is that they reused the same formula that was in oblivion. feeding to get weaker is just stupid, i could tolerate it in oblivion because its supposed to be what those vampires do (to blend in and look human) but the volkihar are supposed to be vastly different. 86.147.157.189 04:15, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Becoming a Vampire again?

At the bottom of the page it says you need to use a console command; in the "Cure for Vampirism" section, it says you can become one the normal way again.

Which is it?

Also, is "being in the sunlight" defined as being outside during the daytime, or can the game tell when you're in shadows? 92.4.228.235 10:49, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

In my experience it can't tell when you're in the shadows, it's just being outside during daytime, even early morning, and you can become a vampire and repeat cure for vampirism as much as you'd like since you're made human through magic not alchemy, thus it wont give you any resistance to vampirism, at least i think that's what basis the developers went with -yoo203

Sunlight Stopping Regeneration.

In game, it is stated that vampirism stops magicka, health, and stamina regeneration. However, a previous edit noted that sunlight stopped magicka and health regeneration, but not stamina. In my personal experience, sunlight stopped both stamina and health regen, but not magicka, but I also had several + magicka regen items equipped. I wonder then, if it simply removes any base regeneration, but not any bonuses you may be receiving from items or perks.

someone said here on wiki that they were still able to regenerate their health because of an enchanted item that boosted the regeneration, apparently vampirism gives you -100 regeneration, so if any of the bars get a + regeneration, your character will be able to regenerate albeit very slowly.86.186.126.162 23:42, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

It might be worth noting that if you have a wife, you can get her to make homecooked meals which are extremely helpful to vampires. I didn't wanna note it myself though, I trust you guys with it. Broxigar 09:53, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

The Restoration perk "Recovery" can be useful for vampires- it allows you to still regen Magicka in full sunlight. It's not as fast as it is at night, but it's definitely better than none at all. 209.66.120.3 00:13, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

I am a vampire, I have no magicka regen items and I have removed the Recovery Perk. I am still regenerating Magicka while standing in the sunlight (the Active Effects list the weakness to sunlight). The only way I can find to prevent it is to console the regen rate down to 0 - any higher and my Magicka still regens. Anyone any idea where this is coming from? there is a possibility it's something i did, since i have used the console to tweak things like regen rates in the past, but only with modav magickarate, which I'm pretty sure i've fixed (it's back to 3.00).

weirdly, my magicka wasn't regenerating prior to removing the Atronach stone - but magickarate was set to 15.00 at the time. 94.193.221.42 17:19, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Pale Skin?

It says on the page that vampirism will give you pale skin, but on my imperial (who had the palest skin on the scale prior to turning)his skin turned super dark, to the point that he looked like a redguard. Does vampirism just get the opposite skin color, because i've heard of redguards getting white skin, but apparently my imperial got dark skin.

Note: response below. I ain't the OP. Note to OP: please sign your posts with four tildes, next time. I think, but that's just an idea, that yours is a case of wrap-around. I'm guessing that your skin-shade went into the negative values, which is defined in signed binary by setting the most significant bit to 1. I'll give an example with a byte (so, 8 bits)

00000001 through 01111111 are postive values (1 through 511). Now, in signed binary, 10000000 stands for -512, and 11111111 for -1. The game would know this, being how computers handle negatives, and would interpret your original value (let's assume it's 0) as signed, due to system-limitations. It reduces the value, and we'll assume, for the sake of argument, that it goes to -1. Binary, this'd mean the value is now 11111111. But hey! Then the game reads your skin-shade, and processes it as an unsigned binary number (1 through 1023, in this case). Et viola... Your skin is now very dark. 80.61.175.49 20:25, 22 November 2011 (UTC) If you do not know french et viola means "and there"

what the person wrote upthere isnt exactly true though it does make some sense. It seems that for imperials vampire is a bit bugged... for somereason the skintone is either default imperial skintone or darker, for nords, highelves, argonians, having the palest skin color isn't a problem which i've checked through various tests, one way i've found to basically keep my character's appearances while having the palest skin tone available is to turn yourself back into an imperial using the console command(player.setrace imperial) after your character's been turned into a vampire and then you'd have to either change into a redguard vampire or nord vampire(player.setrace nordracevampire/redguardvampire) and there ya go, keeps your appearance, and so far as i've seen(haven't confirmed it though) it doesn't change my skills, only thing that changes is my racial bonus(unlike showracemenu setrace will give you the racial bonuses for that race) which i dont care about, but for those that do, you can remove your redguard/nord racial bonuses using player.removespell ######## and readding imperial bonuses such as imperial luck(player.addspell 000eb7eb) if what i said doesn't make sense send a message to me on yoo203@skyrimnexus, since i don't check my e-mails while i visit skyrimnexus for updates on mods :P

I might make an Imperial and test this out. I know personally that my Argonian, who has the darkest (black) scales available in the game, turned disgustingly light gray with a tint of green when he turned into a vampire. He went from looking like he was in his late twenties to his late fifties. (99.136.224.214 06:00, 16 December 2011 (UTC))

Imperials are bugged, it's not the starting skin color that determines if you get pale or dark as a vampire. I spent the morning testing this.

Bretons also have the same issue as Imperials. Starting skin color doesn't matter for them either. You get darker skin regardless.

yoo203 here and yeah I completely forgot about bretons when i checked the bug and when i made a new char a breton i noticed it, but the strange thing about redguard vampire is that it's set at palest if you set the race to redguard vampire, so i'd say it's the one that most closely resembles what an imperial vampire is suppose to look like since nord vampire makes the character taller.

Champion of the Night benefit?

What exactly does the +25% do? Does it reduce the spell cost like other fortify spells OR increase the maximum level of creatures that are effected and increase the duration of Invisibility by 25%? --147.251.215.82 22:07, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Since it states that it makes them '25% more powerful' rather than just 25% better I'd imagine it means the level of targets affected, I could be wrong though has anyone tested? 82.30.211.63 21:34, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm almost sure it increases the maximum level affected. My Fury went from 6 to 7, if I recall correctly. That said, it rounds down. 111.68.59.71 05:06, 3 December 2011 (UTC) TheScathed

Guards in Whiterun Do Not Attack?

I found when playing as a stage 4 vampire that guards in whiterun instead of attacking me started to defend me from other NPCs. I dont know why, but they did mention that they know who i am and secretly hail sithis ( i am part of the dark brotherhood)

it might be because you are a thane, being a thane allows you to get away with some crimes. please sign your posts 86.186.126.162 14:12, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

The Dark Brotherhood has nothing against vampires. If they said Hail Sithis there isn't much mystery left. 81.233.217.129 17:53, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

THe dark brotherhood is known to still attack stage 4 vampires though. And I know the comment he's referring to from the guards; I'm pretty sure they aren't part of the dark brotherhood just supporting you or something like that. Either way, I doubt the entire force of guards in whiterun is in the dark brotherhood :/ 69.151.72.76 20:03, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

What is their line, then? Knowing what they actually said could help. 95.206.3.238 12:54, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
They whisper, "Pssst, I know you! Hail Sithis." And then they carry on with whatever they were doing. (99.136.224.214 06:03, 16 December 2011 (UTC))

Stages

Ok so wait will you descend only one level after feeding, or fall bact to stage one like in oblivion? 219.88.64.227 09:00, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

I've looked everywhere for it but does standing in the shadows regenerate HP or did bethesda not bother with such "complexity" and just make it so at certain time per day i can't regenerate? That sucks, what's the point being a vampire if you're going to have to rely on potions more or less. But maybe that's just me. Seemed almost better in oblivion, at least in oblivion there was no real disadvantage at stage 1 vampirism.

Uhh... Ive been exposed to sunlight in an ancient dwemer ruin in pitch black. So, Im gonna go with "no," you dont. 69.151.72.76 19:41, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Does feeding off people kill them or do you just take some blood but not all of it?

It's harmless.

"Uhh... Ive been exposed to sunlight in an ancient dwemer ruin in pitch black. So, Im gonna go with "no," you dont." That's a bug. While it's true that standing in the shade outdoors doesn't prevent the sun from weakening you, being indoors DOES. That's easily noticeable by simply sprinting around a town at 12pm until your stamina is empty, and then entering a building.--62.30.162.142 02:05, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Can werewolves become vampires?

Can you still become a vampire if you're already a werewolf? Or do you have to cure your lycanthropy? --Drapius 22:43, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Drapius

as its been said before, there is no hybrids, you can only be one or the other, vampires will be cured of vampirism if they become a werewolf and werewolves cannot be infected. Curing lycanthropy makes the player immune to both lycanthropy and vampirism but one person mentioned they became a vampire after being cured. 86.186.126.162 15:21, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Anyone know why you can't be a hybrid? I find it dumb that they "limit" the game in this way. After reading a lot of ppls post it's clear that a lot of people are disappointed with this decision Bethesda made. Don't get me wrong, i personally don't really care since vampirism is more or less useless in my opinion. The addition of regenerating health from feeding as a werewolf would work well with vampirism tho since it stops all regen when outside in daylight.

Hybrids would be insanely overpowered due to a stacking of abilities, i'm glad there are no hybrids. Its not limiting to avoid having hybrids, its sensible as Hybrids are too common these days, hybrids are in Underworld and vampire diaries so its basically a cliché now. Hybrids were in morrowind through use of a glitch, a vampire wearing the ring of hircine would create a hybrid but it looked buggy as it had a werewolf body but a humanoid head. Vampires do regenerate and can "feed" to heal but its through use of the vampiric drain spell which does work in daylight, the lack of regeneration in daylight makes sense, i mean these are vampires after all so obviously they will be weak in daylight. The only way i would think hybrids would work in this game is as an npc antagonist of the vampires and werewolves, as the hybrid would be considered a abomination that would threaten the existence of both species. 86.186.126.162 18:38, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Apparently, the werewolf disease resistance is either bugged, or doesn't effect Vampirus Sanguine or whatever it's called. I did the werewolf ritual with the companions yonks ago, and was infected with vampirism tonight. So apparently my anarchic archer is also a hybrid... 207.30.169.173 04:39, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Guess you're right i'm wrong then.

the lore states vampires are weakened or killed by the sun ergo they do not function very well during the day, vampirism is as much a curse as it is a gift so its not a bad thing in skyrim as its balanced but the fact that they are too similar to oblivion vampires is what i don't like. vampires are not supposed be able to run around having fun during the day, if you become a vampire you have to adapt to a night life and try not to keep your former habits, so vampirism is only useless to those who try walking around during the day and living their former life, todd from bethesda said himself the vampirism changes the way you play the game. The only problem i have with it is there is no bonuses to one-handed, two-handed weapons and speed, the similarities between the oblivion vampires is a bad thing too as we were expecting the abilities of the volkihar 86.186.126.162 19:35, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

It is possible, but only for the PC via console commands. (99.136.224.214 06:39, 16 December 2011 (UTC))
there was a bug in past patches where you could become a hybrid without using console, but i believe that's fixed now and it's completely possible to become a hybrid in theory(haven't tested it myself but I have the theory worked out in my head) first become a vampire, second open up console and type in set playeriswerewolf to 1 then type in player.addspell 92c48 or player.addspell f8306(ring of hircine) and voila you're a hybrid, well kind of, you wont have beastblood but vampirism will make you 100% immune to diseases and poisons so it's a better alternative and beastblood might take away vampirism so i did not add it to my theory, anyways if anyone can confirm this it'd be nice Edit: you could do the opposite and just become a werewolf then type player.setrace xracevampire where x is the race your character is. I believe it should give you all the vampire benefits but i could be wrong-yoo203

funny enough, it is entirely possible to become a hybrid. I did it, actually. On PC but no console commands related to that. I'm not exactly certain how I achieved it though. Update 5 here just in case. And I first become a werewolf (later obtaining the ring as well), then somehow lost resistance and contracted vampirism considerably later in the game. So I have the beast form, the ring and vampiric powers simultaneously. It could possibly been removed during one of the dream scenes, i.e. Pelagius, Dreamstrider or Azura star. Although that's just a theory. (Sensei) 86.164.127.136 04:27, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Lvl 4 Feeding spots

If you have the invisibility spell, pretty much anywhere is fair game. Pacify was definitely helpful if a guard got too close to me in cities though.

Farms/Mills make excellent spots to feed off of as there are rarely any guards and they go to sleep pretty early. I also had luck at the Mages' collegs

also any guild you've become a leader of is a fair game since they dont attack you on sight. -yoo203

Perhaps not ideal for a bloodstarved vampire, but the wounded soldiers in Whiterun's Temple of Kynareth have got to be some of the easiest meals going early game lol. They're permanently "sleeping", day and night.--62.30.162.142 01:12, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

If know where the Abandoned Shack is and have a follower, go to the Abandoned Shack and tell your follower to sleep then drink off follower.

The Volkihar

I didn't edit because I'm not a registered user and didn't want to infringe on any style guides I'm unaware of or such but the latter section on the vampire page incorrectly references all vampires in skyrim as being 'Volkihar'. Volkihar is simply a single clan of Vampire (much like Aundae, Berne & Quarra from Vvardenfell/Morrowind) present in Skyrim, such is noted in the book 'Immortal Blood'. Referencing the fact that they 'share several minor powers with their Cyrodilic counterparts' I was under the impression that in the 200 year Oblivion->Skyrim gap the strain of vampirism fom the Cyrodilic Vampires (a clan described as the most powerful of clans) had spread in to Skyrim and perhaps mingled with a previous Skyrim clan strain. I don't have any sources to hand for the latter claim though. 82.30.211.63 21:32, 29 November 2011 (UTC) 82.30.211.63

I agree with you, and that does seem to be a likely explanation, however there is little/no lore on vampires in Skyrim to confirm or disprove your theory.... So either ask the developers or hope they release some lore on the situation...173.218.144.66 23:32, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

The Vampires in the game skyrim are the Volkihar, if you were to be infected by a fledgling vampire on one save file and Volkihar on another, you will just have the same vampiric powers and appearance. just because the vampires do not display their infamous ability of phasing through solid ice doesn't mean they aren't the volkihar. Game mechanics of werewolves and vampires always differ from the actual lore of them. I know why you think they are the cyrodilic tribe though, its because of the similar gameplay mechanics, but due to the different weaknesses, some powers and appearance, they are indeed the volkihar. 86.186.126.162 22:00, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

There's another argument for them being the Cyrodilic strain, if we take the story Immortal Blood at face value, and don't assume it is just an exciting vampire novel written by a non-vampiric novelist. In the story, Movarth is definitely turned by a Cyrodilic vampire, and we meet Movarth during the game, which suggests that the Volkihar, after being attacked by the pre-vampiric Movarth, were indeed at least partially displaced by vampires from Cyrodiil (including Movarth himself). 71.38.175.128 21:31, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

The vampires or some are called the Volkihar and there is no power differences when players are infected with either a fledgling vampire or a volkihar, movarth himself has the same appearance and attacks as avolkihar. its just a plot hole and laziness on bethesda's part when it comes to volkihars and movarth. his character would be more significant if he was indeed a cyrodiil vampire as he was supposed to have been turned by one.

Drinking Werewolf Blood

"The vampires of Skyrim are unable to drink the blood of werewolves for sustenance as it both cures them of their vampirism and turns them into lycanthropes. It is unknown if all vampires are equally susceptible to lycanthropy. Once turned into a werewolf, the process cannot be reversed as werewolves are immune to infection by Sanguinare Vampiris."

I tried this out in-game (fed on Aela the huntress and waited for a day), but even after I tried feeding on nearly all the companions nothing had happened. Is this a bug, am I doing something wrong, or is this information incorrect? Starbucksisevil 17:43, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

in terms of game play mechanics, feeding on aela of the other circle members does nothing but when you drink the blood after its been cut from aela (which is a scripted event) it cures vampirism and turns you into a werewolf. so its either the game mechanics or maybe in terms of lore or whatever, it only effects vampires when they are in werewolf form but so far all we know is that drinking the blood of aela during the quest will cure you of vampirism. mr.scryer 86.179.16.150 17:42, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Should it be changed to say that they cannot drink the blood of werewolves in beast form? This seems more accurate. Starbucksisevil 17:47, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

best leave it for now as you can't really feed on werewolves in beast form, the only time you get to drink their blood is during the companion's quest line and since all you do is drink the blood (there is no magic or anything) and it cures your vampirism then its a safe bet to say that vampires cannot drink from werewolves but feeding on aela or any circle member is just following the same game mechanics as normal so that doesn't go against the werewolf blood thing. Mr.Scryer 86.179.16.150 17:55, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Actually, that part IS confusing, so I added this explanation after it: " Note that practically this only applies to the werewolf initiation in the Companions questline, and feeding on NPCs that are able to turn into werewolves (e.g. Aela) is no different to feeding on normal NPCs and does not cure vampirism or give lycanthropy." ~Z.W.

This part is entirely unnecessary. All the player needs to know is that if you become a werewolf, you are cured of vampirism. You can only drink the blood of sleeping NPCs that are in some kind of bed. Doesn't matter whether they are werewolf or vampire; and if they are in beast form then they aren't going to be sleeping in a bed. --139.153.52.136 22:07, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Vampirism Followers?

Can your follower or husband/wife contract vampirism? I want my follower to be a vampire like me >_<

I don't think others can be infected with vampirism but if on the PC you might be able to infect them using console commands. There might also be vampire followers that I havn't encountered.RIM 20:52, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Click on the follower and type:
setrace nordracevampire
Alternatively, if you don't want your follower to be a nord vampire, you can substitute nord for any other race. Just make sure the basic formula looks like this: setrace (x)racevampire
This is also useful for people who want to marry Khajiits. Turn a female/male follower into a Khajiit and voila :D (99.136.224.214 06:34, 16 December 2011 (UTC))

18/12/2011 Yes, followers can become vampires. Lydia became one after few vampire fights, and started using vampire's attacks. Unsure if can be reproduced with other followers. On PC

Wait, what? Followers can become vampires? Are yo sure? Do they have penalties in the sun? Use abilities? progress through stages?Lots of questions. 219.88.64.227 11:00, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Has anyone else experienced this? is this possible? Me and Lydia Have fought countless vampires. I caught Sanguinare Vampiris in my first fight with them but im sure afew hundred later Lydia is still human. Kimi the Elf 18:14, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Is there any console command to acquire vampirism?

I want to start a character who already had vampirism for immersion purpose, is there any console command I can use to accomplish that?

I used player.addspell 000b8780. Because contraction is a chance event, I had to copy this line a few times before I contracted the disease. The Invisible Chocobo 08:16, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

does this really work? because it doesn't show up on the active effects, I've been manually getting the disease so far >.< -yoo203

Well it worked for me. In the active effects there should be reduced health stat or something. The Invisible Chocobo 04:29, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

oh and as for the answer to the first question, yes there is a console command for an extremely easy vampirism. "setrace.xracevampire" x being the race you chose etc. setrace.nordracevampire will make your character a nord that became a vampire as if you've waited 3 days after having sanguinare disease -yoo203

Images

I've taken screenshots of my Khajiit character before and after vampirism and added it to the page. However, there was no change in appearance between stages one and four. When I used the console to change my character's race to Nord to show vampirism on a non-beast race, her appearance changed slightly but not as significantly as my Khajiit; her eyes went from green to a sort of yellowish, she looked slightly paler and more gaunt but that was about it. I was wondering if this is because I used the console to induce vampirism and to change race; can anyone confirm more noticeable changes in appearance in a non-beast race, and any changes between the four stages? The Invisible Chocobo 08:58, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

As far as I've seen, vampirism in humans is not very noticeable at all. The only difference besides what you have said, is they get longer, sharper canine teeth as well. However, you don't usually get to see this on your character because their mouth is shut. If you talk to Babette in the Dark Brotherhood, you can see her vampire teeth.
  • Argonians get 4 long, protruding teeth towards the front of their mouth, the pupils of their eyes become red and their skin gets significantly paler.
  • Khajiits get two saber-tooth tiger shaped teeth in the front of their mouths, as well as red pupils while the rest of their eye is a more yellowed color than what it used to be. They also get some gray fur.
  • Humans (Bretons, Nords, etc.) get yellow eyes, paler skin and vampire teeth (long, sharp canine teeth).
  • Elves (High elves, dark elves, etc.) I have not tested vampirism on an elf yet, but I assume their appearance coincides more with how humans transform.

I have to admit, the Argonian and Khajiit vampires are much more noticeable and have the most obvious features. Also, console-coding yourself to become a vampire, and contracting vampirism through regular means makes no difference in the game. They both have the exact same appearance. (99.136.224.214 06:27, 16 December 2011 (UTC))

Right, thanks. Do you think it would be worth it if I added a similar image for a non-beast race? I'll take suggestions. =3 The Invisible Chocobo 09:38, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
Well, since we're in Skyrim, a Nord vampire might be a good example. As for elves, well... The difference between a normal and a vampire Dunmer is absolutely unnoticeable, so I'd say either Altmer or Bosmer. I wonder what an Orc vampire looks like, though. Do their tusks grow bigger? 82.243.194.53 12:21, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
Somehow I managed to miss this on my watchlist. I'll do a similar image with a Nord male for comparison. I'll also check out what an Orc looks like for you. The Invisible Chocobo 11:31, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
I just checked on Nord, Orc and Reguard -- with Orcs and Redguards, the only difference is a change in eye color, and I noticed them both get a bit more gaunt. No extra tusks on the orc, or anything like that. Her one whited-over eye stayed that way, too. However, with my Nord...

Bit disquieting. That said, my Redguard kept her dark skin (which was definitely not anywhere near the light side of the Redguard skin slider), so it might be a glitch, or a Nord thing. --Thiafy 21:45, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

vampire followers

after completing mages guild quest and becoming the arch mage i took a follwer out now i think she turning into a vampire eyes turning red

Why is this part even mentioned?

"Vampirism is slightly more difficult to manage this time around as simply fast travelling can increase the stage of vampirism which will put the vampire at risk of being attacked should he or she fast travel to a town, therefore a vampire should feed regularly before attempting fast travel."

This is entirely wrong and both highly subjective. One had a much more difficult time in Oblivion. Fast travelling could result in instant death due to sunlight damage. NPCs also could not be interacted with at the highest level of in-satiation. Not only that, but that is the longest and most incorrect sentence structure I have ever seen.

If anything, vampirism is much easier to manage. No sunlight damage means you don't need to worry about when you want to venture around outside.

I have edited it with something more salient. --139.153.52.136 22:19, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

"This is entirely wrong and both highly subjective. One had a much more difficult time in Oblivion."

entirely wrong? so i take it you never played as a vampire then as if you did you would know fast travelling increases the stages of vampirism and can cause problems if you fast travel to a town, in which you end up a stage four vampire. Death by sunlight in oblivion doesn't make being a vampire easier this time around as you are severely weakened by sunlight and you will be swarmed by guards (who may be as strong or stronger than the player in level) and town-folk should you hit stage four. it was accurate before in saying that "vampirism is slightly more difficult to manage this time around" because you have to feed before fast travelling or risk getting attacked by town-folk and being in weakened state if its daylight, also you increase in stage regardless if you have not waited or slept. In oblivion, one could let themselves go and should they fast travel and end up in sunlight they could simply heal themselves or jump in water to dull the effects until they find a cave, being a vampire in oblivion was much easier to handle due to the great enhancements that comes with and the worst a vampire had to put up with was not being talked to by npcs rather than getting attacked. 86.147.159.158 23:40, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

yoo203 here and i say it was harder to manage in oblivion only because stage 4 takes 4 game days and really... would a simple fast travel cause you to lose 4 whole days worth of feeding? i rarely ever get to stage 2 and i feed way before stage 3 making vampirism much easier to manage, as for weakening from sunlight, well with proper enchantments you can regenerate magicka health and stamina without any problems, and when you reach stage 4 you can become invisible for 3 minutes which should be plenty enough time for you to go somewhere secluded and come back past midnight using invisibility to feed, and if that's too hard you could just sneak into a bandit/forsworn camp and drink from one of them at night, since i seem to find at least one that's a sleep when it's night. also the allied faction if you move along to a high enough position wont attack you on sight making another feasible option for feeding, thus i say it's a lot easier to manage than dying in 10 seconds as soon as you exit an inn due to stage 4 vampirism, and if you're on the computer you can set timescale to 10 or 5 without real noticeable problems which will make managing vampirism that much easier.

Vampire Appearance Progression

"This becomes more apparent as you progress through the stages"

Is this true. I haven't noticed any change in appearance from stage one to four. If false please remove it. --139.153.52.136 22:26, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

I second this. The only change my character went through was from being completely normal, to becoming a stage 1 vampire. From stage 1-4 there was no difference in his appearance. (99.136.224.214 06:15, 16 December 2011 (UTC))

Your appearance is the same throughout all stages of vampirism.--62.30.162.142 06:11, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

The eyes are the only significant difference, some turn yellow, or red, some turn black. Though I believe that is determined through starting race.

Thieves Guild

This might be due to my guild master status, but I've found that people in Thieves Guild don't attack me even if I'm in stage 4 vampirism.

Yes that is generally the case with the guilds, the same happens in the Dark Brotherhood and Companions.RIM 20:57, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
Not all guilds. My Vampire Assassin Mage is Arch-Mage at the college but they still attack me when at stage 4. I think it would be good if we had a list of non hostile people for stage 4 vampires. so far the only ones I have found are...
  • The Dark Brotherhood
  • Thieves Guild (I am not even a member. I only went in as far as the Ragged Flagon to ask Delvin about the amulet)
  • Some of the Khajiit caravans.(Not all)
  • Guards in holds I am thane.(Citizens still attack tho)
  • Northwatch Guards.(Despite the Thalmors bad reputation these guys don't seem to care I am a vampire.)
Everyone else I have met is mean! Kimi the Elf 00:59, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Please tell me how to make vampiric drain more powerful

I find the benefits and drawbacks of vampirism reasonably well balanced with one exception. There must have been a misunderstanding between the designers of the "vampire class" and the programmers who implemented it. They forgot to put the percentage sign behind the numbers of the Vampiric Drain spell. The amount of health restored should be 2%, 3%, 4% and 5% at stages 1, 2, 3 and 4. The current values of 2-5 _points_ are way too low. I can't even kill a bloody cave bear with Vampiric Drain before he bites me to death and my stats are 386 hp, 210 armor with 100% cost reduction in destruction spells! Perhaps 5% percent regeneration of total hp seems like much, but it would still take about 20 seconds to refill from very low hp, and with massive damage bursts from orcs with maces and what have you I think it's hardly too much. I'm fairly certain people will mod vampirism once that becomes an option, but in the mean time, please help me figure out how to modify the stats of the spell to something like 3, 6, 9, 12 points per second. -tox2ik

this mod should be for you then (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1139) it improves drain to 5/10/15/20 but scales magicka costs, and it also improves werewolves but that doesn't matter does it? -yoo203

This is not at all intended as a general weapon, it is supposed to make up for the regeneration reduction in sunlight. You can have sword/shield/whatever in one hand, the drain in the other, and fight as if the regeneration reduction never even existed. Considering it's purpose, at stage four it's actually quite powerful, it works as both a healing spell, an offensive destruction spell, and more than makes up for the regeneration problem. 219.88.64.227 11:42, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Female characters wont change in appearence

I have noticed that when my female redguard becomes a vampire after the three day waiting period her eyes wont turn black and red nor her skin will turn whiter. In male characters the transformation occurs normaly. Can someone help me on this problem? PdaFtw

Have you tried taking screenshots before and after (if you're on PC) and comparing them? I found that the transformation was significantly more noticeable in the beast races than in humans. The Invisible Chocobo 16:21, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
yoo203 here and generally some races use brownhazelbrown instead of vampire eyes when turned to vampire generally imperials, nord, bretons, and possibly redguard, but downloading a simple mod (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3374&navtag=file/images.php?id=3374&tab=3#) to fix this problem.
I also don't seem to look like a vampire. I play a female nord who had white hair, white skin, white eyes. I don't know if my skin became pale as I was always pale anyway. I also am unsure about if I have fangs, I don't think I ever open my mouth? My eyes however became brown... If anything I look more human now than I did before! I hope this is just a bug that will be fixed and not how it is suppose to be. Kimi the Elf 01:29, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
It seems like Vampire eyes, in this game, become hazel, not red. My female redguard's eyes went from blue to hazel, just like my female orc's one eye went from red to hazel. Personally, I'm rather pleased with the lack of skin color change on redguards, because whitewashing vampire characters has unfortunate implications, and tends to do unflattering things with any face paint your character might be wearing... However, if you have a dark-skinned Nord, their skin will, indeed, magically turn a pale white, regardless of gender. Eyeless pale Nords should still look the same, yes. The white-eyed one-eyed-ness stayed as it was before Vampirism on my orc, so if it's "healing" with undeath on your Nord, that's a glitch. Or my orc was glitched. Could be either, really. --Thiafy 23:21, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Note

"If you are an argonian vampire, some npc's may stop calling you an argonian and instead of just two fangs sprouting from the upper jaw, four fangs are present."

May I remove this note? Besides the poor grammar, NPCs don't constantly greet you with your race anyway, and I don't think the number of fangs is really a relevant thing to add to the page. The Invisible Chocobo 04:33, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
Personally, I have had plenty of guards referring to me by race. I can't say whether or not they stop referring to you as an Argonian, but if it happens, it is notable.

If you do could you leave the warning about argonian fangs or maybe put it under bugs, I think its a bug cause the set of fangs inside my argonians mouth clip through his bottom lip and look unnatural. Honestly it looks like the vampire teeth inside his face were for the humane races and the teeth outside his mouth were for beast races and they forgot to code the inside the mouth teeth out for argonians =( as a roleplayer this really bothers me a lot.

I removed the part about NPCs referring to your race because it's quite specific and not all that relevant. I'd also say it's quite likely that it doesn't only happen to Argonians. So if anyone can confirm that it happens to players of other races and it's not just that the NPC dialogue has randomised in such a way that they don't mention your race in greeting simply by chance, then of course feel free to put it back. "Dread Cloak"

On the Powers page of this website, it states that there is a spell, Dread Cloak (000ed0a9 For 60 seconds, opponents in melee range take 8 points frost damage and Stamina damage per second. Vampire power) However, it states nothing about this on the Vampirism page, along with the obviousness of not being able to use it on your own vampire. Is the Power page wrong? Have any of you noticed NPC Vampires using this spell? Also, apparently searching for Dread Cloak takes you to the Vampire page, even though it says nothing of it.99.46.201.204 07:15, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Dread Cloak exists, but isn't granted. It can be consoled in, but I have no idea why it is deactivated, so do so at your own risk.

Well, I'm on the 360, so I don't think I have the option of consoling it in, but do you all think we should make a note of this on the page somewhere? Since it is technically a vampire skill?--99.46.201.204 21:31, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Burned face?

This happens on both my Nord and my Breton Vampires but when they are out in the sun too long, their skin starts to burn and so they have black streaks across their faces that don't go away no matter what. What's with that?

After a bit of testing, I've concluded that the burnt/dirty face texture that appears on some vampire player characters is more than likely a bug, and is caused by your character's eyeliner color, of all things. To test this, try creating a female Nord or Breton with NO face coloring/warpaint/etc EXCEPT the darkest eyeliner color available, then turn your character into a full-fledged vampire, create a new save, exit and relaunch Skyrim, and load the new save. Instead of having dark eyeliner, you character should now have dark colored dirt/burn marks on her face. Not sure how many of the races are affected by this bug, as I haven't tested them all. The only solution seems to be to not give your characters any eyeliner during character creation if you plan to turn them into vampires. No other face coloring causes the dirt/burn marks to appear, as far as I can tell. --75.3.155.160 13:18, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Totally blacked out vampire eyes?

I am playing as a female Nord and became a vampire. My character had blue eyes as a normal human, then hazel eyes after making the transition to vampire, as I've seen described above. However, after a few minutes of game play, I've noticed that her eyes will go completely black, and *without* the red pupils. They're also have a milky reflectiveness to them, and the eyelashes look either doubled or enlarged. Babette of the Dark Brotherhood looks this way too. I've since started a new file, with another Nord female, and gave her naturally green eyes. I've noticed that her eyes go shiny-black after a while too, and she's not even a vampire. Has anyone else experienced this? 68.37.186.110 22:37, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

This sounds like a video card problem, but those tend to have more, far-reaching effects rather than just eyes. I have not seen this as of yet on my save. 72.47.10.157 14:10, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

My character got the black eye color too, and we also started with blue eyes. She's Imperial, though..it must have something to do with the eye colors when you get further infected

Companions questline

Can i become a vampire AFTER becoming a werewolf?

I am a vampire illusionist on my current playthrough.

Was wanting to finish the companions questline.

I am aware that bestblood cures vampirism.

That beastblood can be cure at the end of there questline as well.

That you cant get the lovers rested bonus even if your cured of beastblood. Whcih tells me that some of the blood is still in you even after being cured.

You can't be both simultaneously, but after you cure your lycanthropy you can be a vampire. ESQuestion?EmailContribs 16:55, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

The Restoration Necromage perk's effects as Vampire

I did some testing to find out what got affected by that perk, on PC. This is what I have found out that worked for me so far, may be wrong though:

It buffs all blessings, shouts, equipped enchanted gear, consumed potions, some spells and some Standing Stones (Apprentice, Atronach, Lady, Lord and the Steed stone).

It basically seems to make almost anything with a magnitude, ( x regenerates 100% faster, +y health/skill etc.) 25% stronger but not damage/healing for spells/enchanted weapons. Almost anything with a duration lasts 50% longer. It also buffs the range of destruction cloaks by quite a bit so it even reaches through walls. Some effects doesn't show up buffed in the Active effects menu even though they are.

Some examples; Talos blessing/amulet reduces shout time by 25% each instead of 20%.

Dualcasted Dremora Lord lasts 540sec instead of the "normal" 360sec (i have a mod that increases duration, but this perk still increased it by 50%).

Health potion of 75hp healed ~94, no regeneration effects active other then the normal healrate.

It doesn't seem to affect permanent effects like Agent of Mara and Sailor's Repose though.

Wanted to get this out there to perhaps help improve the wiki if parts/all of it is verifiable to work with others. Bigbumblebee11 01:49, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Bigbumlebee11

Does it appear to work on perks such as magic resistance, atronach, recovery , etc ... ? Would be so .... Overpowered ? :) --Gaija 22:35, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
I want to add that the silver weaponry appears to have the bonus damage to Vampires, too. If you are a vampire, especially a low level one, be wary of getting close to those weapons, as the bonus damage is +20 and is affected by damage perks and enhancements. 72.47.10.157 13:54, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Necromantic abilities of vampires: Vampire's servant, Dead Thrall, Necromage Perk?

I wonder what exactly is the level of each stage of Vampire's servant power. I mean the maximal level of creatures reanimated at each stage. One quess is that is exactly the level of the corresponding Conjuration spell. Thus, for example, 4th stage is equivalent to Dread Zombie spell which level 30 maximum.

The next group of questions is related to any advantage that Vampires might have along the standard Conjuration spell path. The main question: does the Necromage perk increase the level of all Reanimation spells. The most interested spells are Dread Zombie and Dead Thrall. Dread Zombie is 30 level spell but it is confirmed that a generic necromancer after having the necromage perk increase the level of reanimated undead Draugrs. Tested on Death Lords with Greater Souls and you are able to raise 37(or even 38) level Draugrs with the perk. However you still couldn't raise 45 level Draugr Death Lord (those with Grand Souls and full "Fus Ro Dah" against the player). Also you couldn't raise Giants (level 32) even with that perk (because Giants are not undead).

But it was mentioned just above that being a Vampire itself with the Necromage perk fortify 25% all spell effects. The question does it fortify the level of Conjuration spells? If so then Vampires should be able to Dread Zombie a Giant or maybe even a Mammoth(level 38) (notice that those are possible to reanimate using The Ritual stone power, so there is no hard restictions just spell level ones).

Of course, in the case of Dead Thrall spell a Vampire with the Necromage perk might be able to Thrall up to 50 level NPC. Actually the Necromage perk works in reanimating Vampires up to level 50 (you can thrall 48 level Volkihar Vampire but not 53 level Master Volkihar Vampire) but no help in the case, say, 46 level Dremora Valynaz. One way to test it is using the Atronach Forge. You should be a Vampire with level above 40 then you bring Deadra Heart, Leg of Goat, and Skull (last two items can be found in the 2nd level of the Midden) into the offering box This should produce a hostile Dremora Valynaz and after defeating him you can test your Vampiric Dead Thrall. An alternative way of testing is simply trying to Dread Zombie a Giant.

Could anybody test those things (I couldn't do it myself since my character is a Werewolf and thus no way to become a Vampire)?--31.128.131.253 08:59, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

OK, I loaded an early save and become a vampire instead of a werewolf. Yes, you've got 25% boost in magnitude and 50% in duration and it includes many spells, potions, enchants and blessings. However to be counted, the magical effect should be cast by youself (blessings of shrines and stones treated like this) and on youself. Dread Zombie and Dead Thrall are casted on others so this 25% in magnitude applied only if targets are undead, i.e. Draugrs or Vampires. So, no Giant as zombie or Dremora Valynaz as Thrall are available.--89.23.171.9 11:58, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Using Fire resistance to negate penalties?

I'm hoping to use fire-resistance enchantments to reduce or eliminate the weakness to fire, can anyone tell me how these penalties and bonuses are calculated? For example, a Stage-2 Vampire is 50% weak to fire, would that mean that two pieces of 25%-resist fire gear brings you back to normal damage, or does it bring you down to 75% damage as 1.5*0.5 = 0.75?

Is it possible to become immune to fire, despite being a stage-4 vampire? How are potions and the 50% Dark Elf bonus applied?

(Tryptic 23:46, 5 February 2012 (UTC))

All percentages are additive. A stage two vampire with two pieces of 25% fire resist gear would have 100%(base)+50%(vampire)-50%(resist gear) damage taken, for a total of 100% fire damage taken, or just normal damage from fire as if you weren't a vampire. Normal enchanting at 100 skill would produce items with 40% resist fire, and you can have up to four items enchanted (Ring, Necklace, Boots, Shield), for 160% fire resist, so you can become totally immune to fire up until stage 3, where you will take 15% fire damage and 40% fire damage at stage 4. If you use potions of fortify enchanting 32% and have the Necromage perk, you could become almost totally immune to fire even at stage four with only a Ring, Necklace, and Boots if you don't want to use a sheild. Math below, if Skyrim doesn't work like this feel free to correct me.
Fire resist 40% x Potion of Fortify Enchanting 32% x Necromage 25% bonus
(40*1.32)*1.25 = 66
Three pieces of gear
66*3 = 198
200% fire damage taken at stage 4 - 198 fire damage resist = 2% fire damage taken.

Redundancy between Advantages & Disadvantages and Vampire Powers & Spells

The 25% greater illusion power and the 25% sneak power is listed in both sections. Meanwhile, the night vision power is not listed in the all stages section. They either should be edited to all say the same thing or combined into a single section. Nightstalker's Footsteps

Fortify sneak is supposedly bugged, increasing the chance you will be detected. I'm on 360, so it's not very easy to test this in any reliable way, but has anyone on PC looked into whether Nightstalker's Footsteps is also bugged in a similar way, or is it a different effect that functions correctly. If not, it seems that being a vampire would be rather large liability to a sneaky character.
