Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Speak to Neras Hardil in the Andothren Guild of Fighters, about orders and a pack of alits.
  2. Travel to Menaan and talk to the governor, Dathlyn or Raynil.
  3. Talk to Darra by the silt strider platform.
  4. Follow Darra to the pack of alit and either:
    • Let Darra fight the pack alone.
    • Kill the pack.
  5. Return to Dathlyn Vando for your reward.
  6. (Optional) If Darra survived the fight and you lied to Dathlyn, give Darra the 1,000 gold.
  7. Report to Neras Hardil.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

Neras has received a request from Menaan's governor that he wants you to handle. A population of alits has been causing trouble for the town, and you're instructed to speak with the governor, Dathlyn Vando (or Raynil Vando - see Notes), ahead of a cull. Travel to Menaan. It's within a reasonable walking distance along the road leading from Andothren's eastern gate (turn right at the signposted junction after Vathras Plantation and pass through Savrethi Distillery), but is most easily reached by silt strider from Andothren.

Once in the town, talk to the governor in Vando Manor. She'll ask you to cull the alit herd for 250 gold, but will also make a 1,000 gold offer if you ensure that the guide leading you to the alit does not make it back to town alive. The relative weight of the rewards does speak to the governor's priorities, but she will not insist you commit to the murder now.

Proceed outside of town and speak to the Khajiit, Darra, below the silt strider platform. You can warn her that the governor wants her dead, or stay schtum. Warning Darra will see her express her complete lack of surprise at the governor's malevolence, but she will insist on guiding you anyway - largely because she does not like the idea of the alit harming the residents of Menaan.

Darra will lead you to the pack of Troublesome Alit. On approaching, she will ask you how you want to proceed. You can tell her to charge in ahead, and allow her to be killed by the pack. In this case, return to the governor for a 1,250 gold reward. You can otherwise assist her in killing the creatures, or go it alone. In either case, assuming Darra is alive by the point you report to the governor, you'll have to either come clean about her survival (for the 250 gold reward and a complaint), or lie about her death.

If you choose to lie, a hidden Sway check will be run to see if you succeed. This Sway check takes into account your Personality, Speechcraft, Luck, level of Fatigue, and the governor's own disposition, being more likely to succeed on higher values. If you fail, the governor will see through your ruse and grumpily pay you the 250 for killing the alit alone. If you succeed, she will be delighted, and pay the full 1,250. The longevity of this lie is somewhat limited by Darra being very obviously alive, and still living in town - you can speak to her afterwards and try to persuade her to leave, but she will refuse. You can however optionally give her the 1,000 gold paid for her death.

Regardless of how you resolved the Darra question, return to Neras Hardil for a reward. If you spared Darra, he'll be a little concerned at your failure to follow the orders of a House Hlaalu notable, and you will receive +2 Fighters Guild reputation points. If Darra died, you will receive +5 Fighters Guild reputation points, but there are no other differences between the outcomes.

NotesEdit

  • Governor Dathlyn Vando can die as a result of certain quests, in which case Raynil Vando will take her place.

5 The Fighters Guild has taken a contract to kill a pack of alits that have been causing trouble for the town Menaan. I am to go there and speak with the governor, Dathlyn Vando.
7 The Fighters Guild has taken a contract to kill a pack of alits that have been causing trouble for the town Menaan. I am to go there and speak with Raynil Vando, the acting governor.
10 Governor Vando told me that Darra, a Khajiit scout living outside the walls of Menaan, knows where the pack of alits are and has volunteered to lead me there. I'll be paid 250 septims when the beasts are dead. However, there's a catch. The governor also wants Darra dead. Should she die fighting the alits, the governor will pay me an additional 1000 septims.
20 Darra said that the pack of alits have made their den in a mushroom grove to the west of here. She asked me to follow her. I didn't tell her that the governor wants her dead, too.
25 I told Darra that the governor of Menaan wants her dead. She wasn't very surprised and said that she still wishes to help the townspeople by getting rid of the pack of alits. The beasts have made their den in a mushroom grove to the west of here. Darra asked me to follow her.
30 I told Darra that we would attack the pack of alits together. I could simply let her attack them alone, if I wanted her to die.
35 I convinced Darra to stay back, while I dispose of the pack of alits.
40 The troublesome pack of alits is no more. I should let the governor in Menaan know of this.
50 The governor of Menaan thanked me for killing the pack of alits as well as taking care of Darra. She gave me 1250 septims. I should report back to Neras Hardil at the guildhall.
55 The governor of Menaan thanked me for killing the alits, but was angry and disappointed that Darra was still alive. She gave me 250 septims. I should report back to Neras Hardil at the guildhall.
60 The governor of Menaan believed me when I told her that Darra was dead. She gave me 1250 septims in total. I could return back to Darra, or I could leave her and report back to Neras Hardil at the guildhall.
65 The governor of Menaan didn't believe my lie about Darra being dead. She gave me the 250 septims for killing the pack of alits and dismissed me quite angrily. I could return back to Darra, or I could leave her and report back to Neras Hardil at the guildhall.
70 I gave Darra the 1000 septims that the governor had paid me for "killing" her. She thanked me for helping her. I should report back to Neras Hardil at the guildhall.
75 Darra thanked me for helping her. I should report back to Neras Hardil at the guildhall.
