Quick WalkthroughEdit

1. Talk to Favryn in The Laughing Goblin.
2. Ask Gilas Indalor at the Akamora Temple about family names. He casts a spell and disappears.
3. Get three bonemeal and three ectoplasm. Ilmeni Bendalos has these at the temple and may ask you to sabotage the ritual.
4. Wait a day for Gilas to return to give him the ingredients; decide whether to sabotage them here if you are following that path.
5. Escort Favryn to the temple.
6. Observe the ritual or choose not to participate and wait about an hour outside.
7. Receive a reward from Favryn back in The Laughing Goblin, and from Ilmeni if you sabotaged the ritual.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

A Dunmer with No Family NameEdit

In The Laughing Goblin in Akamora, speak with Favryn. He explains how he was left at the Chapel in Bruma as a baby, never knowing his parents, and consequently, his family name. Lately he has become interested in finally discovering his ancestry, so that they can guide and protect him and so other Dunmer do not look down on him. If you choose to help him, he suggests asking around at Akamora's temple, which is on the south side of town across the stream.

Preparing a RitualEdit

There are two priests at the temple: Gilas Indalor and Ilmeni Bendalos. Ilmeni will direct you to Gilas if you ask her about family names. Speak with Gilas and he will explain that a ritual can be performed to contact Favryn's ancestors, though it is very difficult for someone who has not been connected to them for so long. He must leave to prepare, while you gather three bonemeal and three ectoplasm. Any will do, he says, but Ilmeni may also have them. You are forced to end dialogue; Gilas casts a spell and disappears with a promise to return the next day.

Ilmeni is not happy to hear about Favryn again. She explains how he insulted her, saying her potions were so bad they should be fed to a guar. She proposes an idea... Depending on her disposition, she changes her mind, even claiming to not have any of the supplies in stock (<20); or she changes her mind but says you can buy them (<45); or she gives you the ingredients and proposes that you sabotage the ritual by mixing ash salts with the bonemeal. According to her: "Gilas won't notice -- he's a terrible alchemist, why do you think he sent you to get the ingredients? Too embarrassed to admit he can't tell the difference between marshmerrow and bittergreen." If Gilas has already returned, however, she decides not to risk it. The sabotage path will be permanently blocked in this case. If you get the service refusal response, you can raise her disposition to buy the items, find another alchemist, or harvest the ingredients yourself.

No matter which response you receive, your next objective is to wait for Gilas to return and provide him with the ingredients. If you accepted Ilmeni's offer, you can still back out at this stage and give Gilas pure bonemeal and ectoplasm. Suspecting nothing either way, he asks you to bring Favryn over to the temple.

The RitualEdit

Return to The Laughing Goblin and tell Favryn the plan. He agrees to travel with you to the temple. When you arrive, the lights are dimmed, and the room is lit primarily by the candles around the central ash pit. Talk to Gilas to begin the ritual. He wishes for you to attend, as it would be fitting for one knowing, one seeking, and one fully ignorant of their heritage (you as the Nerevarine) to be there.

You can refuse to participate, in which case he asks you to leave the temple until it is finished. If you try to enter after doing this, you receive the message:

Powerful magic prevents you from entering the Temple right now.

The ritual completes on its own after about an hour, whether you chose sabotage or not.

If you attend, the screen fades to black and you are positioned by the ash pit opposite Gilas and Favryn. Gilas will proceed counterclockwise around the pit, pausing to cast spells and say these lines:

"Praise be to Almalexia, to Ayem, to Mercy. We ask for her blessing."

"Praise be to Sotha Sil, to Seht, to Mystery. We ask for his blessing."

"Praise be to Vivec, to Vehk, to Mastery. We ask for his blessing."

When he completes his circle, the Ghost of Favryn's Ancestor is summoned. If you didn't sabotage the ritual, Favryn will say, "...yes. Yes. I hear you, Fenar Dareleth." The lights come back on; Gilas is pleased, while Favryn is too deep in thought to talk at the moment.

If instead the bonemeal contains ash salts, the ghost is offended and turns hostile. Favryn takes out a silver longsword and slays it. He angrily states, "For a moment I thought... but no. Senseless, stupid superstition, all of it. Why did I think this was a good idea!" then storms out of the temple.

AftermathEdit

Following the sabotage path, you may want to speak with Ilmeni downstairs. She rewards you with an emerald and she gains 5 disposition points. You can also do this after talking to Favryn.

Find Favryn back at The Laughing Goblin. If the ritual was a success, he is renamed Favryn Dareleth. His response differs depending on the outcome, if you chose to attend, and if a week has passed between the ritual and your arrival. In all cases, he gives you an ancestor's ring. A successful ritual nets you two quality restore health potions and 15 disposition points as well.

Ilmeni and Gilas have varying responses depending on the outcome. Keep in mind that if you told Ilmeni you were going to sabotage the ritual but backed out by giving Gilas pure ingredients, she will be angry and lose 7 disposition points.

NotesEdit

• If you sabotage the ritual and get too close to Favryn before he kills the ancestral ghost, he will storm out and you'll have to deal with it on your own. It is only hostile to him at first.
• Trying to Recall or coc into the temple while you are locked out will move you outside with the same message as if you tried the door.
