Quick WalkthroughEdit
- Talk to Tuls Varalaryn in Bodrum's tradehouse about preoccupied, debt and Treram Varalaryn.
- Speak to Treram Varalaryn about his debt and either:
- Convince him to talk over a bottle of mazte (req. 40+ disposition).
- Persuade him to tell all (req. 75+ disposition).
- Either:
- Deposit the outstanding 250 gold in Treram's chest.
- Speak to Tuls, Treram, then Tuls (rewards Varalaryn House Amulet, 1x Goya)
- Or:
- Travel to Andothren, speak to Eleanor about the debt, and either:
- Settle the debt with interest.
- Persuade her to waive the interest with 85+ disposition.
- Persuade her to waive the interest while at Lawman rank or above in House Hlaalu.
- Persuade her that she'll never make her money back (requires 60+ Mercantile).
- Intimidate her into waiving the interest (requires 70+ Strength).
- Return to Treram, then Tuls (rewards Varalaryn House Amulet or Third Barrier Belt, drinks).

Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Tuls, the trader of the Varalaryn Tradehouse in Bodrum is preoccupied. Speaking to him about this will reveal his concern for his father, Treram, who is wallowing in a debt that he refuses to speak of. Asking about the debt will see you invited to intervene - Tuls has the notion that his father will be less ashamed talking about his troubles with strangers rather than neighbors. Agreeing to help will immediately see you given a bottle of Mazte to aid in loosening Treram's tongue.
Go down the stairs by the tradehouse entrance to find Treram on the lowest floor. You'll need to ask him about his debt, but his disposition towards you will determine his response. At below 40, he will reject all enquiries. At 40-75 he will allow a conversation on the topic. At 75+ he will tell all.
It transpires that Treram is indebted to a Hlaalu moneylender in Andothren named Eleanor, and while he has accumulated the sum he initially borrowed, he has been caught out by the interest she has added onto the loan.
From here you can head straight to Andothren, but you may wish to speak to Tuls about Eleanor first, as he'll give you 20 gold towards travel expenses. He'll also raise the idea of stealthily depositing the remaining 250 gold that Treram owes in his chest. If you choose to do this you'll save yourself a trip, but lose the 250 gold. Theram's room is on the bedroom floor of the Tradehouse, and is the northwestern chamber. You'll need to bypass a level 60 lock. Once you've deposited the money, speak to Tuls about the debt, and then Treram to receive the gift of an amulet. Speaking to Tuls a further time will reward you with a bottle of Goya.
If you choose to travel to Andothren, you can find Eleanor in the Hlaalu Council Manor, on a balcony overlooking the main chamber. Talk to her about the debt topic. You'll then be able to either pay the debt off yourself, or try to convince her to drop the interest. To achieve the latter you'll need either to have 85+ disposition, be of Lawman rank or above in House Hlaalu, or convince her that she's better off accepting the money without the interest, with 60+ Mercantile. Alternatively, if you have 70 or more Strength, you can intimidate her into waiving the interest entirely. You can of course also complete the quest by killing Eleanor, but this will result in no reward from the Varalaryns.
Once the debt is settled, return to Treram for your reward (and Tuls for a bottle or two for your troubles). Treram's reward will be his house amulet if you took on the debt yourself, or a Third Barrier Belt if you simply got the interest waived.
