Lore:Smuggling

I nominate this page for deletion for the same reasons as I nominated Lore:Slavery. Its scope is overbroad and there's no place to properly categorize it. Smuggling as a concept in TES is no different than it has been in the real world, making a page for it here both unneeded and a bad precedent. Making sure the page is comprehensive (plus, that is maintained for future games) would take a huge amount of time, and all of that time would be wasted, as it would all be needlessly duplicative: the page would not cover any information that shouldn't already be covered on various pages for races, places, people, etc. The benefit of compiling all the information in TES on smuggling in one place is both very marginal and very disproportionate to its cost.

As you can currently see at Category:Lore, we only have a few "orphans" left in the lore section. I've been trying to reduce them, as it is my firm belief that we should not have any orphans. The only "pages in category 'Lore'" that should show up there are lore category overview pages. The lore sections and appendices are intended to narrow pages to manageable topics, which is why they shouldn't be ignored. We're going to make appendices for "Aetherial Fragments" and materials, and we'll eventually find a place for Lore:Skooma. So the only real orphan left is this page. We need to get rid of it.

I have not been a contributor to this page, other than to delete a defunct link.

  • Delete: The page is largely incomplete, as I assume that smuggling is not just limited to Elsweyr and Morrowind. Creating a complete overview of smuggling in Tamriel would be an impossible effort, as we only know small parts of tamriel at a given time, and such business is in a steady change. Even if we would manage, the information would be useless to nearly everyone. And, as ME said, smuggling is no speciality of TES, so a general page isn't needed. -- SarthesArai Talk 15:32, 11 July 2013 (GMT)
  • Comment: Not voting either way - I voted weak keep on Lore:Slavery, and the justification for this is even weaker. But I'll make the same comment I made there, which is that we've got a big pile of new lore headed our way with ESO coming out, and the comment that we "only know small parts of tamriel at a given time" is about to be invalidated, as ESO will eventually include the entire continent. Also, like slavery. the article should not be a definition of what smuggling IS. Obviously, that should be common knowledge. Rather, it should be specifically about the types of goods that are typically smuggled within the ES universe, as well as any other ES-specific information on the subject. So far that's pretty much Moon Sugar/Skooma, ebony, and dwemer artifacts, but that could change, and soon. So my vote would be to hold off on this until ESO's official release - we may even at that point consider reinstating Lore:Slavery, though we don't have enough information yet to know if that's warranted. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 16:22, 11 July 2013 (GMT)
  • Delete or Userfy: As said before, smuggling is not unique to TES and this page is incomplete and pretty much useless to people. Should ESO provide a good deal more information then I would support this page's existence. --Ad intellige (talk) 18:51, 12 July 2013 (GMT)
  • Userfy: If ESO adds lots of information on this topic, it would be helpful to have this as a starting point, but otherwise it should not exist in Lore namespace. Since ESO is a year away and we do not have any reason to believe it will be added, I think we ought to remove it from Lore namespace, but keep the text around in case ESO expands on this. -Thunderforge (talk) 04:51, 21 July 2013 (GMT)
  • Delete or Userfy: I coulda sworn I already voted on this. Anyway, everyone else has already covered anything I would have said so.... What they said. Jeancey (talk) 04:57, 21 July 2013 (GMT)
Consensus: Userfy. While the majority of people want to see it gone, enough think that it should also be userfied to preserve it. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 19:09, 25 July 2013 (GMT)
