WelcomeEdit

Hello Vulpa! Welcome to UESPWiki. It's always good to have new members. If you would like to help improve any of our pages, you may want to take a look at the following links:

If you would like to spice up your userpage, click here for a list of userboxes you can use, including a guide to making your own.

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games in the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun! —The Silencer speaksTalk 23:44, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

New LineEdit

Hello Vulpa. I noticed you added lots of spaces to make the text appear underneath your userboxes. We have a NewLine template that can make the text appear underneath without lots of spaces if you need! It also guarantees that your page looks great on all screen sizes. ^_^ — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 22:09, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Cool, thanks! Is this how I am supposed to respond, or is there a special page for conversations besides this one?--Vulpa 22:55, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Responding here is how it is done. Its better to use a colon : to add the indent. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 23:02, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Oh, thanks (just testing the colon thing here). --Vulpa 23:12, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

CheckingEdit

Hi, I don't know if there are supervisors that check this regularly or if I need to find somewhere else to ask this, but: can anyone "check" a page in the Skyrim cleanup operation or do you need rank? Thanks, --Vulpa 23:16, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Anyone can check, as long as you follow the guidelines. There are no "ranks" on UESP, just groups of people that others agree can competently use the extra features for those groups. The Silencer speaksTalk 23:22, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Otherwise known as User Groups, here is some basic information on the various groups. MethodicMockingbird 23:26, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

CiceroEdit

Hey Vulpa! Thank you so much for nominating the Cicero page for FA – I have waited forever for that to happen. I apologize for my revert, but a page this size is really hard to get right – so I’d suggest you try tweaking it in a Sandbox instead – otherwise, people will not look at the original page – and we need more than Snowmane’s opinion before we panic. Thanks again.--Krusty 22:55, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

There's probably no use (as in you might not see this) responding this late, but skimming through my talk I noticed that I had forgotten to respond to this and felt bad. So, you're welcome! (and sorry if this is a case of 'unrelatedness' on a talk page) --Vulpa 15:46, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Show previewEdit

Hey Vulpa! Can you use the show preview button a bit? You're making lots of small edits to just a couple pages, clogging up the Recent Changes a bit, and it'd be nice if you could cut down the amount to just one or two edits per page. Thanks! Vely►t►e 01:37, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Oh... do user pages show up on that? Because I didn't want to lose the stuff I'm changing, since I'm trying to learn how to do all this custom userbox stuff and I felt like I was making progress I didn't want to lose... sorry.... --Vulpa 01:41, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Certainly! Any page that you edit will function will the Show Preview function. Type the change, click the "show preview" button, then go on and make more changes if needed before saving the page. Vely►t►e 01:44, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for letting me know. Sorry about that most recent, by the way... it's the last one for today. :)--Vulpa 01:46, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
It's quite alright. :) Vely►t►e 01:49, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Stormcloak Soldier baseIDEdit

Hey, Vulpa, I just happened to notice your edit summary in this edit where you commented about not seeing the baseID in the NPC Summary. I figured I'd let ya know there's nothing you're doing wrong there, it's simply because of the way the template functions-- since your sandbox is in your userspace and that parameter is specific to the Skyrim namespace, it doesn't appear. However, if you were to copy/paste the exact same formatting onto a page within the Skyrim namespace, it would work the way you expect, and that would appear. Also, instead of using "unknown", can I suggest the huh template? It doesn't matter as much while it's in your sandbox, but would be better on an actual article. Hope this helps! ABCface 02:46, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Ohhh. Thanks! Yeah, I was hoping someone would read that summary :) --Vulpa 15:38, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Thadon ImageEdit

In your edit summary you asked "how can I get the pic of thadon to the right of the scrollbar?" I edited your page, is this how you wanted it? — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 00:01, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, that's perfect. Thanks! It's good to know that it's possible and that I now have a reference if I need to do it again. --Vulpa 17:56, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Have a fan!Edit

I love your Thadon joke.So here's a fan for you and a reference."I'll follow you until you love me.Homi.Homicidal champion."

Sorry I couldn't make it like a prize.I tried,but it did'nt work.I hope it dosen't mess anything up.--Skyrimplayer 21:09, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Haha... no, that's fine. I might have to add this one to the Thadon one (plus, that's one of my favorite songs)! Thanks! --Vulpa 17:59, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
BTW, I looked at your userpage, and I LOLed at least three times. And above, I meant the song on the picture of the Adoring Fan, not Thadon.  :) --Vulpa 18:33, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

SigEdit

Is this what you were going for?

Vulpa

I just changed the # symbol in front of the hex coded colors to quotes around them:

<font color="FF4500">V</font><font color="D2691E">u</font><font color="FF8C00">l</font><font color="D2691E">p</font><font color="FF4500">a</font>

Hope that helps! -ABCface 23:21, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, thanks! Not the colors I thought they were, though... Thanks again. --<font color=#FF4500>V</font><font color=#D2691E>u</font><font color=#FF8C00>l</font><font color=#D2691E>p</font><font color=#FF4500>a</font> 23:23, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
Well, at least now that you've got the formatting issue down, you can play with colors some using show preview. I dunno if you've seen already, but there's a handy list of colors here, and one way to see the colors better on the sig would be to bold them all. :) ABCface 23:27, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
Like this? --<font color="FF4500">V</font><font color="FF8C00">u</font><font color="FFA500">l</font><font color="F4A460">p</font><font color="FFD700">a</font> 23:30, 27 August 2012 (UTC) Aargh! Now what did I do wrong?! Sorry...
Try copying the formatting I posted above (the text in this font), then make any appropriate color changes from there. If you wanted to bold it, try this (I added <b> and </b> at the start and end of the link label):
<b><font color="FF4500">V</font><font color="D2691E">u</font><font color="FF8C00">l</font><font color="D2691E">p</font><font color="FF4500">a</font></b>
It would look like this:
Vulpa
If you prefer the bolded version, just copy/paste the formatting from this post instead of the first one. ABCface 23:39, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Oh. Thanks again! Sorry for being stupid.  ;) Geez, I didn't think it'd be that hard.... |:( --Vulpa 00:07, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Don't be sorry, and don't think you're stupid! Sometimes the tiniest tweak in formatting (just one character at times) can make a big difference, and it can be a pain to find where that little tweak needs to be made. Glad you got it all figured out now :) ABCface 01:13, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, with no small thanks to you! There, I think I'm done tinkering with this for a while now.... I finally got it the way I wanted, though! Thanks again! (P.S. Like it?) --Vulpa 22:47, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
You're welcome, I'm glad you're happy with it. And yeah, it is cool. :) ABCface 02:18, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Stormcloak Soldier (Sovngarde) --> funny unclickable links on topEdit

I just moved my old sandbox into the Skyrim namespace. Then I went to look over the page to make sure everything was okay. It was not. There are odd unclickable links at the top that seem to be un-editable. o.O This is probably a total n00b question, but... what are they, and how do I get rid of them? --Vulpa 04:28, 11 November 2012 (GMT)

That's because the NPC Summary is incomplete (there are too many unknown parameters), and I see quite a few problems with the layout per the NPC style guide. For example, the opening sentence should be something like: "This Stormcloak Soldier is a [race link] [class link] who can be found at [place link] etc". The PC/NPC conversations are preferably formatted like this, this, or this, and are generally not placed in tables. The part with the "golden sparkles" is not necessary, his inventory should be a proper paragraph, and the related quest should use the quest link template. Also, you should link this page from the appropriate pages, because this page is orphaned. If you're okay with it, I'll do a revamp of this page. ~ Psylocke 04:45, 11 November 2012 (GMT)
Sorry, but I already went ahead with revamping the page, as one of the patrollers slapped a cleanup tag on it. I tweaked the layout so that it is consistent with other articles on the site, such as the ones listed above. I removed some unnecessary info and also added/corrected a lot of info, such as the NPC Summary and his inventory. I also uploaded an image for it. ~ Psylocke 07:25, 11 November 2012 (GMT)
Don't be sorry, Psylocke! It looks a lot better now. I admit, I have no access to the CSlist stuff, so I couldn't check any of the summary stuff/inventory/class name properly (although I did five in-game checks and I got the same inventory each time o.O) or even add a picture (stupid Xbox). I just found a character that I thought needed his own page, put together all my info on him, and gave him to people like you who could make the page how it should be. (I probably could have done the dialogue better though.) So thanks, and nice job! --Vulpa 14:43, 11 November 2012 (GMT)

Userspace PatrollerEdit

Hiya Vulpa! I've just gone ahead and promoted you to userspace patroller, as requested :). Welcome aboard! eshetalk 19:24, 24 November 2012 (GMT)

Thanks, Eshe! (Now do I get to see what these red exclamation marks are? :P ) --Vulpa 19:49, 24 November 2012 (GMT)
Congratulations, Vulpa!--Skyrimplayer (talk) 19:51, 24 November 2012 (GMT)
Thanks, you too! Apparently we had the same idea! ;) --Vulpa 19:53, 24 November 2012 (GMT)
Like wise, Vulpa. Let's tackle those red marks. The spambots await.--Br3admax (talk) 19:55, 24 November 2012 (GMT)
Haha! Already started. :) Thanks again --Vulpa 19:56, 24 November 2012 (GMT)

All GoodEdit

Thanks for moving my fanfic, I was just copying the link off the page itself, My main speciality is correcting lore mistakes on uesp, not sorting things, really Emzi43 (talk) 15:59, 6 December 2012 (GMT)

You're welcome! 'Twas no problem. It's pretty good so far, by the way ;)-- I've got fanfiction there too. --Vulpa 22:37, 6 December 2012 (GMT)

PatrollingEdit

Hey, I looked at your patrol log recently, and I think it'd be nice if you could review patrolling guidelines. A few of your edits don't necessarily go along with the guidelines--marking unanswered questions as patrolled doesn't help the site, and I know that, in general, people who are themselves patrollers/userpatrollers tend to like marking their own pages patrolled. But the important thing is with the questions--if they haven't been replied to, please don't mark them patrolled. Thanks, and keep up the good work :) Vely►t►e 02:25, 12 December 2012 (GMT)

Sorry, I remember thinking while I marked those "well, the only one who needs to see that is the user who got asked the question, and I know that (s)he'll get one of those 'new message' banners and thus won't need another red ! ". Won't happen again.
PS: you know, I think my problem is actually overeagerness. There really isn't ENOUGH red marks for userpatrollers-- all the edits are either on patroller userspace or Dragonborn (which I don't have, sadly). >:/ --Vulpa 13:44, 12 December 2012 (GMT)
Wait. I have a question: if someone says something on a user talk page that is a reply (or comment or something) that the user may want to hear/patrol/whatever, do I leave that unpatrolled or only leave unanswered questions? --Vulpa 15:24, 12 December 2012 (GMT)
Nevermind, I think I answered my own question. The guidelines didn't directly answer me, but I think I inferred it good enough. (Hopefully.) --Vulpa 23:59, 12 December 2012 (GMT)

Empty PagesEdit

Hiya Vulpa! Thanks for your help in filling out some empty pages recently. I do have a question though. Are you just gathering information from the info box and game data to write it into the description, or are you actually checking these NPCs out in gameplay? The reason I ask is that some of the NPCs you've filled out information for appear to only be used as templates for other NPCs which are actually encountered in gameplay. Filling them out the way you have implies that they appear in game, so I wanted to check on this before marking them as patrolled. If they are only used as templates, we probably want to make note of that. Thanks. — ABCface 04:08, 27 December 2012 (GMT)

Hm, I proposed those templates for deletion now. We generally don't document NPC records that are used as template only. Those were just generated by the bot since they have a name used not otherwise. --Alfwyn (talk) 18:01, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
No, I'm sorry.... I might be mistaken but I thought I saw a few in-game; either way, I didn't actually do an in-game check. I instead used the CS, and sort of assumed that what was already written on each page was correct-- from that I formulated introductory sentences so that the page wasn't that hideous thing known as "empty". ...Perhaps I should stop trying to help and just fix spelling mistakes xP . And perhaps one day this talk page will be singing my praises instead of my errors (unlikely ;) ). --Vulpa 23:05, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
Well, I wanted to check because I recognized some from in-game (the Dawnguard and Vampire Scouts) but wasn't entirely sure about some of the others. And don't worry about your "errors" because it brought attention to the template NPC pages that needed to be addressed anyway, which probably would've gone on who-knows-how-long without being taken care of. The pages you filled out which weren't templates were just fine. :) — ABCface 23:20, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
That makes me feel a little better ;). Thanks. ....Well, if I can do stupid things and they eventually help by bringing attention to them, then I guess I'll keep trying. :D Also, (WARNING:noob question coming) how can you tell if someone is actually in-game or not (without searching in-game)? I mean, if I'd known how to tell all that from the CS, I'd do it all myself... --Vulpa 01:09, 28 December 2012 (GMT)
ALSO, how should I properly mark the remainder of the empty pages (which are probably all templates) for correction, since I don't know for sure? --Vulpa 01:26, 28 December 2012 (GMT)
Don't worry, that's not a "noob" question, it's actually a pretty good one. Since I play on Xbox, I start with the information I have. Using the "What Links Here" tool (it's at the top of the "toolbox" section at the bottom of the sidebar on the left) is a good place to start. Find where these NPCs are linked, and what information is provided about them where they're mentioned. From there, if it's possible to investigate further in-game, go ahead and try (for instance, if they're mentioned on a place page, run through that place, or if they're mentioned on a quest page, do the quest). By doing this, you can learn the information you need on your own, even if it's really basic.
Since I don't have access to the CK, that's about all I can do initially on my own. If I'm still looking for information and there are no relevant links to check out, I usually ask specific questions to people whose CK skills I trust. But sometimes it takes more than just the CK, and you actually have to check in-game. For example, check out this edit (scroll to nearly the bottom) by Vely and this one by Alfwyn, both for the same NPC-- while they both gathered the same information from the CK, to be 100% positive about it, it needs to be checked in the game as well. When it comes to NPCs being "used" in-game, there are instances when NPCs are sometimes disabled initially, but become enabled later given the right conditions... the problem is that the conditions aren't always easy to figure out, and sometimes they don't ever occur. So even after checking the CK, it's sometimes necessary to check in-game to be 100% positive. Sometimes, editors find part of the information in the CK and use talk pages to get further information and in-game verification about it, like here. When it comes to information which you're almost sure of, the use of huh and vn tags, edit summaries, and talk pages are helpful, but if you're really not sure, leave it blank rather than guessing (see this section of the style guide).
As for the remainder of empty pages, I assume you mean those in the Skyrim namespace. Looking at the category for those, Alfwyn said he'd check out the Dawnguard Hunter tomorrow (I asked him about it a while earlier), the two scouts are definitely used (I remember this from in-game experience- each appears only if you're allied with the opposite side), the Fort Commander is apparently encountered at Fort Amol and may also be encountered elsewhere (I learned this from the edit summary and What Links Here tool), and the Load Dummy and Lucerne are both technically creatures rather than NPCs. Lucerne is supposed to be in Glenmoril Coven and there's some notes on the Load Dummy on the Skyrim:Dawnguard Creatures page. For both of those creatures, the information is from the CK, so they should be looked into in-game in order to find out for sure (the Load Dummy would require console use, and probably needs more in-depth checking).
Last, don't be too hard on yourself, Vulpa, you're doing just fine. I've learned a lot from doing things wrong and being corrected by others. The whole point of the wiki is that it is a collaborative effort, and things can always be improved. We're all here to help each other out. So don't criticize yourself, you're doing fine. :) Sorry for my "TL;DR" response, I hope it wasn't too longwinded and hopefully it made some sense... :P If you ever feel like contacting me for any other questions, feel free. I check my talk page daily, my e-mail often, and I'm sometimes in IRC too (just PM me if I'm not in the #uespwiki room). — ABCface 03:52, 28 December 2012 (GMT)
OMG, thank you so much for explaining all that to me! (You did a very good job-- I actually do understand it all :) .) It's very nice to have people on a site like this who actually take the time to make sure (relative) newbies understand what's happening and why. As such, I applaud you! And on the topic of what's left of the Skyrim empty pages, I think I may try and put an intro to the scouts and commander's pages. I'll use my new tools to do it, to! :D --Vulpa 14:47, 28 December 2012 (GMT)

BugifyingEdit

Hey! Good work on bugifying, but could you make sure to either put |confirmed=1 or |vn=1 to the bugs that aren't fixed? That way, they get put in the correct cats and not in the Outstanding Bugs cat. Thanks! Jeancey (talk) 02:22, 13 January 2013 (GMT)

Sure! But (and this is going to sound stupid, I'm sure) how do I know whether they are confirmed or not without actually looking for them in-game (my stupid friend broke my 360 by accident... :/ )? Anyway, thanks for letting me know. I had a feeling I was missing something... --Vulpa 14:26, 13 January 2013 (GMT)
You can skim the talk page, check edit summaries in the history to see if multiple people confirmed it, check any related pages, eg NPCs, Quests, Places, but be sure they weren't added by the same person. The majority of older bugs are correct, it's just the bug template is new, so they haven't been confirmed in any consistent way. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 14:36, 13 January 2013 (GMT)
Oh, I see. Thanks! --Vulpa 14:40, 13 January 2013 (GMT)
Also, if it has a fix already, it doesn't need to be confirmed. :) It is just assumed that it was a real bug, since they fixed it. Jeancey (talk) 17:13, 13 January 2013 (GMT)
Oh. I read this a little late, having just spent time "confirming" 3 fixes bugs. x( Thanks, though. I'll go change those. --Vulpa 17:15, 13 January 2013 (GMT)
No worries :) I think I got them all, but I may have missed one... Jeancey (talk) 17:17, 13 January 2013 (GMT)
