ConceptEdit

This template was originally copied from Template:NPC_Summary. The idea here is that I want to create uniform wiki pages for all of the characters in my fan fiction tale, The Gaersmith Legacy. Much of the information I want to store about my fan fiction characters is standard for any character within Tamriel, so starting from the NPC_Summary template was a logical choice. However, I want to also store additional information, or ignore fields that are only relevant to an in-game character. The best way to do this, that I could think of, was to copy the entire NPC_Summary template and modify my own copy of it, then transclude the modified version for my fan fiction characters. Fanfic or Lore based?Edit

The first variable I need to change is the refid field, which in the Gamespace namespace displays the refid of the NPC. As my characters are not part of the game, they do not have a refid. However, there may be times when I want to reference a particular Lore-based character within my fan fiction tale. In those instances, I will create a new Person and link it to the Gamespace version of the NPC. This will allow me to store fanfic information about the Person, while still providing a quick link to the Lore-based NPC.

To achieve this, I am removing any reference to the refid field in my custom template, and replacing it with a fanfic variable that will contain one of the following options...

fanfic="A custom character"
or
fanfic="Source:[[Skyrim:Alvor|Alvor]]"

...This way, a completely custom character from my fan fiction tale, such as Rerlas Gaersmith will not have a link under their name, but will be clearly identified as being unique to the fan fiction. Whereas, a character that is based on an in-game NPC will have a link to the Lore-based version under its name. That's the idea, anyway. I'm still working on this. Any ideas or comments anyone?
