Release Date Canceled

The Elder Scrolls: Legends (China) was a planned online strategy card game spin-off of the Elder Scrolls franchise. It was supposed to be a separate game from The Elder Scrolls: Legends, developed specifically for the Chinese market.

The game was canceled and it is unknown whether it was directly developed by Bethesda Softworks, Sparkypants Studios, or by a third unknown party. According to the studio's technical support, GAEA Mobile Ltd, the developer of Legends Asia, were not involved in the development of this game.

The first known test launch took place on January 8, 2019, and was held with partially disabled game features, and was available on mobile devices only. Later that year, on November 20, another test took place, this time to test the stability of the game and the matches. The announcement and all materials were posted on the website iyingdi.com; the original posts are no longer available. After the tests were finished, new information about the project stopped appearing, and all information and related accounts were hidden from the site, which may indicate that the project was canceled. The exact reason for this is unknown.

Known differencesEdit

Although the project was canceled and not much is known about it, there are still some clear differences from the original version, such as:

  • Censored art — Since the game was made for the Chinese market, most of the card art and portraits were censored from showing scenes of bones, blood, burning living creatures, expressions of agony, obvious wounds, etc;
  • Game currency — According to extracted tutorial notes and game assets, the game would have had other currencies that looked visually similar to the premium currencies from ESO, namely Crowns and Crown Gems. In addition, there are other assets in the game files that were probably intended to be currency analogs, but it is hard to say for sure what they were intended for;
  • Different system of rewards and boosters – According the tutorial notes and game assets, the game would have had its own unique boosters, and probably its own unique reward system based on special themed boxes;
  • Book of wisdom — probably was a part of the tutorial. It was supposed to be awarded by the Psijic Order for passing the test and was supposed to help the player "become a master".

NotesEdit

  • Legends China is not to be confused with the 2023 Legends Asia re-release, which was also launched only for the Chinese market originally.
