Hazadir was a famous Argonian grandmaster smith, active during the reign of Empress Katariah.[1][2][3]
HistoryEdit
Hazadir was a slave to the master armorer of Vivec City. He eventually became a freeman and moved to the Imperial City, where he owned a humble smithy in the slums. During the time he lived in Vivec, his skills were noticed and acknowledged by Katariah, before she ascended to the throne.[1]
At some point following her ascension to the throne in 3E 153,[4] during the unrest in Black Marsh, the Imperial troops suffered heavy losses during the skirmish near to the village of Armanias. Seeing that her army was ill-equipped for operating in such terrain, she turned to Hazadir, a smith, who knew the environments her army would be facing. Although the Elder Council disapproved of this decision, because of Hazadir's background, the Empress was relentless. After much debate, it was finally decided that both Hazadir and Sirollus Saccus, by reputation the best smith in the Imperial City, would contend for the commission. The Council also elected two champions of equal power and prowess, Nandor Beraid, and Raphalas Eul, to battle using the arms and armaments of the craftsmen. Nandor, who later became known as Katariah's champion,[5] was equipped by Hazadir, and his opponent, Raphalas, by Sirollus.[1]
In the days leading to the duel Hazadir briefly studied under Sirollus. Ultimately, the Argonian, despite using much more inexpensive material and more mundane methods, was able to lead Nandor to victory over the Elder Council's chosen champion, who donned Sirollus' marvelous ebony equipment. Although his techniques were more rudimentary, he made up for it in sheer knowledge of the rugged environment of Black Marsh which was simulated for the battle. Hazadir received the commission and designed weapons and armor that won the war in Armanias. This victory helped the Empress prove a point and win respect among the unruly Elder Council. Defeated yet determined, Sirollus set off to Morrowind in hope to learn whatever it was that Hazadir had learned there,[1] and as of 3E 427 still remained there at the Ebonheart garrison on Vvardenfell.[6]
LegacyEdit
As of 3E 433 Hazadir was a famous historical figure. His distant relatives still lived in the Imperial City, but no longer in poverty. Gin-Wulm, who claimed that Hazadir was his "great-great grandsire's sister's-son" was among the best smiths in Cyrodiil as of that time.[3][7]
