The Hillhunter Clan was a prominent clan of Reachfolk that lived in the Reach, a region in western Skyrim during the Interregnum in Second Era. Hillhunters were nomadic hunters who lived primarily in the mountains south of Markarth. They are known for their woodcraft, knowledge of the terrain, and stealth.[1][2] According to members of the other clans, no one can track a Hillhunter unless they choose to be tracked.[1] They were not numerous clans and typically kept out of the quarrels of the more populous clans.[2]
HistoryEdit
As of 2E 568, the Hillhunters were considered one of the more prominent clans in the region.[1]
In 2E 582, the Gray Host descended onto the Reach to search for an ancient artifact of great power. While many of the Reachfolk stayed in Markarth at the behest of Ard Caddach, The Hillhunter Clan led by Chieftain Faorin traveled to Briar Rock to parley and seek refuge with the Thornroot Clan,[3][4] but they were instead imprisoned and made unwilling subjects of the briarheart ritual. The Thornroot hagravens sought to create an army of briarheart berserkers rather than provide protection for all clans.[2] The chieftain's daughter, Medone managed to escape the Thornroots.[5] She enlisted the help of a traveler to liberate her clan and father, as well as burn the briarheart tree in Dead Crone Rock. The traveler fought their way through Briar Rock and burned down the tree and freed the members of the Hillhunter Clan, including Chief Faorin, who was imprisoned in the tower,[6] as Hagravens decided to save him for a special ritual related to the creation of the new Briarheart Tree.[4][5] They later moved on to parlay with the Wayward Guardians, led by Arana.[7]
After the clan was liberated from the Thornroots, they found shelter in the mountains. Once the vampiric threat of the Gray Host, has ended in the Reach they relocated to the lowlands. Chief Faorin decided that his daughter Medone was ready to lead the clan and continued to prepare her for that role.[4][2]
Representatives of the clan attended the ceremony during which the peace between Nords and Reachfolk was signed.[8][4][2]
