The Oaken Order (or the Oaken Knights)[1] was a Breton Knightly Order active in the Systres Archipelago in the Second Era. They were one of three orders that hosted the Sapphire Tourney on High Isle, a proving ground for squires looking to join these knightly orders.[1][2]

Because the Oaken Order prioritized magic over martial combat, members of the Oaken Order were typically battlemages, conjurers, and support spellcasters. Their order was speculated to have been created by druids, though membership also extended to outsiders (even non-mages) willing to learn Y'ffre's teachings.[2] They maintained their druidic connections, often citing them as their foundation for their high level of magical understanding.[3] Some members of their order have overshadowed Mages Guild members in the art of Destruction and Conjuration magic. The guild's conjurers were especially threatened by the Oaken Order's skills, downplaying them as practitioners of hedge magic. The Order of the Iron Knot saw the Oaken Order as lacking chivalry and respect for combat in the way a traditional knight would.[3]

NotesEdit

  • Though it isn't specified which druid circle created the Oaken Order, the Stonelore Circle was friendly and took willing converts, while the Eldertide and Firesong were at that point hostile to outsiders.[4][5] The Stonelore were known to have taken in Oaken Knights to study among them.[6]
