Unstars, also known as not-stars,[1] are celestial objects that resemble stars. Unlike stars, unstars move across the sky and do not emit varliance, though they still emit light. The nature of this light and its effect on mortals remains uncertain.[2]
The constellation of the Serpent, comprised of four unstars,[3][4] is not confined to appearing in the night sky at specific times of the year.[2][5][6][UOL 1] The motions of unstars that form the Serpent are deemed unpredictable. Although they can be forecasted to some extent,[7] sometimes it is deemed impossible.[8]
Like stars, unstars are associated with Magna Ge, though their connection is less clear. Unala-Se taught the stars to be immovable, then "the unstars came, and still she taught them to be undevourable". Xero-Lyg was carried among unstars and cataloged events through time and untime.[9]
NotesEdit
- Sermon 33 of the Lessons of Vivec asserts that the Serpent constellation is "made of not-stars, whose number is thirteen."[1] From Vivec's 29th Sermon, this number refers to the Constellation's place as the thirteenth constellation, "13. The Serpent", rather than the unstars in general.[10][6] The Serpent constellation itself consists of only four unstars.[3][4]
- The Star-Gazers of Craglorn were known for studying the phenomenon of the unstars under the direction of the High Astrologer Caecilus Bursio.[2]
