—Yolnahkriin
Yolnahkriin, was a powerful red Dragon who emerged in Anequina in 2E 582, following the release of the great dragon Kaalgrontiid and his dragon followers from the Halls of Colossus.[1]. He and the dragon Lokkestiiz followed the golden dragon Nahviintaas, to pose as the returned gods of the Khajiit, Alkosh and the moons Jone and Jode, and take over the temple of Sunspire, where they enacted a plan to attempt to expand its Time Wound with the Thu'um in the hopes of causing a Dragon Break to rewrite time and restore draconic rule. Yolnahkriin posed as the incarnation of Jode.[2][3][4]
HistoryEdit
Little is known of his earlier history. It is possible he originates from Akavir, as it has been said to be the homeland of red Dragons.[5][6]
In 2E 582, ancient Dragons had appeared in Northern Elsweyr, reaping the land, following the release of the great dragon Kaalgrontiid and his dragon followers from the Halls of Colossus.[1] The golden dragon, Nahviintaas approached Sunspire with his contemporaries, Lokkestiiz and Yolnahkriin. They posed as Alkosh, Jone, and Jode respectively. Azin-jo, the Moon-Bishop in charge of Sunspire, openly accepted them and preached across Anequina about the return of "Alkosh." A wave of new followers came and rebuilt Sunspire as more adepts preached the return of "Alkosh" across Northern Elsweyr.[2]
However, the dragon's true goal was to use the Thu'um to tear the Time Wound wider in order to cause a Dragon Break which they intended to use to wipe out all mortals, "reclaim all that is and will be" and restore the "natural order" by "correcting the mortal mistake".[2][7][4] While posing as gods the dragons would use their Voice to imbue their deceived followers with elemental power, transforming them into creatures composed simultaneously of ice and flame while also making them thralls of the dragon's will.[8][4][9][10] The dragon's presence would also have an effect on the environment and conditions of the mountain, the dragon Yolnahkriin resided in the caldera, where his presence is said to have "stoked the sleeping mountain's fire", while the dragon Lokkestiiz resided in a windy frost covered overlook.[8]
This news brought the attention of the Undaunted, who were sent to investigate. Yolnahkriin confronted the adventurers in the caldera, where he'd exhibit mastery of of the elements of fire and magma, showering the whole area in stone melting flame and summoning many Iron Atronachs and Flame Atronachs to aid him.[11] The Undaunted ultimately defeated the fake Jone and Jode before they confronted Nahviintaas at the summit and the time-wound. Though he would utilize the power of the Time Wound to manipulate time, claiming his faithful had no need to fear death as he could restore them and they'd serve him eternally, and that he could make his foes relive their deaths over and over, the fake Alkosh was ultimately killed as well, and Sunspire was fully liberated from draconic control.[12][2] With the years he had left, Moon-Bishop Azin-jo vowed to restore this temple and because of his folly, he felt that it was his task alone to bear.[4] But regardless, some priests stayed in Sunspire.[12][2]
As his soul was not devoured by another dovah, Yolnahkriin was not killed permanently and can be raised again.[13][14]
The significance of Yolnahkriin allowed him to be documented within the Infinite Archive in Apocrypha. There, copies of various entities were subsequently created as maligraphies, creatures composed of vivified ink manifested by stories from books, and served as mindless extensions of the Daedric Lord Tho'at Replicanum. A maligraphy copy of Yolnahkriin was formed, which was destroyed by an adventurer or two who were aided by augmentations directly from Hermaeus Mora.[15][16][17]
