Lore talk:Aureal
Removed NoteEdit
- They share many similarities with another Daedric species called the Aurorans. Both are humanoid warriors that are golden-skinned and often seen equipped with golden weapons and armor. Not to mention that they have similar names, both likely derived from the Latin aurum, meaning "gold".
This note has been removed from the page twice now, and I'm removing it a third time. As has been said in the edit summaries, the similarities between Golden Saints and Aurorans is not noteworthy, and I would agree with this completely. By noting it, we're making links where there are none; you could say the same about Xivilai and Dremora, who are both demonic and have horns, but they're two totally different Daedra. Additionally, there has been many discussions before about adding dubious etymology to pages, especially in lorespace where that kind of thing bears no relevance. I'm of the opinion that the note is not only trivial, but speculative as well. Can we get some input on this before continuing with an edit war? —Legoless (talk) 20:52, 1 January 2015 (GMT)
- As one of those who undid this note, I agree with Legoless; if I recall corretly, the auroran armor looks more like elven one (color-wise), and I can't remember having seen their skin. Even if they might look a little alike, we there's nothing to suggest they're linked in any way. -- SarthesArai Talk 21:08, 1 January 2015 (GMT)
- (edit conflict) If you look at this image, once could easily mistake this for a Golden Saint. Even a "not to be confused with" note on top of the page would seem justified to me, given the fact their names are very similar on top of the similarities. The etymology is far from dubious, it's painstakingly obvious their names derive from this word (well, at least for the Aureals), as they are gold themselves. Besides, the page is empty as it is ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 21:19, 1 January 2015 (GMT)

- In ESO, that single Auroran you see is actually just a renamed Golden Saint enemy. But take a look at what they're actually supposed to look like - Ayleid equipment and shock magic. If we start treating re-used artwork as a valid similarity between two canonically distinct things, then we will end up with trolls that are similar to ogres and goblins that are similar to scamps. A "not to be confused with" note is fine with me though, although preferably in the notes section rather than at the top of the page. —Legoless (talk) 22:01, 1 January 2015 (GMT)

(←) Well something like that sounds fair. I didn't realize you were against stating the similarities themselves (rather than the point of the note), and the etymology, which I still feel is truthful and logical in this case. I remember a consensus to add such notes in cases where they made sense, though that was for NPC pages of the games, and not lore ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 00:08, 2 January 2015 (GMT)
- For reference, you can see the Aurorans' skin; the thick muscular neck beneath the helmet. And the reference to golden weapons and armor refers to the color, not the type used. But still I can't help but think the wiki should acknowledge the similarities between the Aureal and Aurorans in some way, besides "not to be confused with X". I mean are you seriously telling me that you can look at a picture of an Auroran and say it doesn't remind you at all of the Aureals/Golden Saints? Bauglir100 (talk) 02:21, 2 January 2015 (GMT)
