Angaredhel

Angaredhel is a Dark Elf mage who is the Prefect of Hospitality at the Gateway Inn in Sadrith Mora. He is very insistent that all visitors to the city must purchase Hospitality Papers from him in order to do business or talk with the local residents. However, nobody but Angaredhel himself will care one way or the other whether you have papers, so there's not much reason to waste the 25 gold to purchase them. Several people will indicate as much if you ask them. One person who shares this opinion may be behind a "haunting" that is causing him some troubles at the inn.

He wears an extravagant outfit consisting of a robe, shoes, gloves, a ring, and an amulet. For defense, he carries a glass stormblade, and he carries 200 gold.

    • "I see you already have your papers. Good."
      • Not at the moment, thank you.: "Then another time. But I caution you. Do not travel in town and speak to and conduct business with citizens, tradesmen, and publicans anywhere in Sadrith Mora until you have Hospitality Papers. Disrespect for the laws of the Telvanni Council will not make you a welcome guest of House Telvanni."

Ask Angaredhel about the work that he mentions to you in his greetings and he will tell you about the ghost that has recently been haunting his inn:

    • "A ghost is haunting our South Turret bed chamber. As soon as we get rid of it, it reappears. We can't rent the room, and all our guests are in an uproar. The Mage-Mistress Arara Uvulas, Master Neloth's Mouth, came to take a look, but said she couldn't see how to stop the hauntings. If you can get rid of the Gateway haunting permanently, I will offer you a choice from a number of valuable items from a local enchanter."
    • Gateway haunting
      • "The ghost is in the South Turret bed chamber if you want look for yourself. Head upstairs, then keep heading south and up stairs to the room. At this point in the quest, you can either head upstairs to investigate the haunted room or pay a visit to the Telvanni Court House and see if Arara can tell you more about the ghost. Should you choose to do the prior, and should you moreover choose to kill the ghost while doing so, an understandably annoyed Angaredhel will reiterate what he said before and urgently ask you to head to Arara instead:

    • "You say you killed the haunting? Weren't you listening? No matter how often it is killed, it reappears. Go. Look. Kill it again. And again. And it reappears. Go talk to Mage-Mistress Arara Uvulas, Master Neloth's Mouth. She said she couldn't see how to stop the hauntings, but maybe she can tell you where to start."

As it turns out, the hauntings were indeed the work of a sorcerer, or rather, sorceress, namely Uleni Heleran, who is less than pleased with the trouble that she was given for traveling through Sadrith Mora without any Hospitality Papers. Even though Angaredhel will give you your reward regardless of whether you tell him who was behind the haunting of his inn, his disposition towards you will only increase if you tell him that it was Uleni. And moreover, his reaction to Uleni's Papers (which appear to be a parody of the Hospitality Papers that he himself is in charge of providing) is quite satisfying in its own right:

    • Explain what happened, but withhold Uleni's name.
      • "Well, I'm extremely displeased that you will not tell me the name of the sorcerer responsible. But you have gotten rid of the ghost, so you shall have your reward. I have a Fighter Ring, a Mage Ring, and a Thief Ring. Each ring fortifies the attributes most prized in each of these specialized disciplines. Which ring would you prefer?"

Which ring would you prefer?"
      • [If Uleni is still alive.] "Well. I should have known. She was quite abusive when she was released. Blamed ME for the whole thing, when it was she who failed to obtain her Hospitality Papers. I will deal with her in my own time. And you have my thanks. You have gotten rid of the ghost, so you shall have your reward. I have a Fighter Ring, a Mage Ring, and a Thief Ring. Each ring fortifies the attributes most prized in each of these specialized disciplines. Which ring would you prefer?"
      • Fighter Ring.

  • One dialogue mistakenly refers to him as "Angaredhel the Altmer" and his name is more typical of an Altmer name than a Dunmer name. However, two other dialogues correctly describe him as "Angaredhel the Dunmer".
