Vows and OathsEdit
Blessing the HandfastEdit
When you approach before accepting the related quest you can overhear Chief-of-Chiefs Cannear berating the gathered Eagleseers and Six-Fords. If you speak to Drisene before speaking to the Chief-of-Chiefs she'll say:
- "Why the chief-of-chiefs wants to involve an outsider in our affairs is beyond my understanding. It's bad enough we have to deal with the Eagleseers!
Regardless, I have nothing to say to you."
Once you've agreed to help Chief-of-Chiefs Cannear with resolving the handfasting matter, she'll be more talkative:
- "The chief-of-chiefs is allowing you to go to the handfasting cave?
Outsider, when you see Madearn … no. Forget I said anything." - Is there something you want me to tell Madearn for you?
- "Yes. No. Give Madearn and the Eagleseer woman your blessing, outsider. Just as the chief-of-chiefs instructed.
Each of us have a part to play in this fiasco, including me." - Are you opposed to this marriage?
- "Opposed? Look, Madearn and I … grew up together. I want what's best for him. And now they're binding him to some Eagleseer hellion, and I ….
I've said too much. Go. Give your blessing. Let's be done with this."
If you speak to her again, she'll say:
- "Do what the chief-of-chiefs asked, outsider."
The Lover's CoilEdit
Return to the gathering at the ring and Vateshran Barth will be retelling the tale of the Lover's Coil. Speak to Drisene before speaking to the Chief-of-Chiefs and she'll remark:
- "That story … there's so much to think about now."
Speaking to the Chief-of-Chiefs, you have to decide to convince Eslyn and Madearn to go along with the handfasting or help the couple find another way.
Go Through with the handfastingEdit
- "I heard you mention Madearn. Please, whatever you're planning, don't make him suffer."
Once you've spoken to Eslyn and Madearn, return to the circle to watch the rite:
- Chief-of-Chiefs Cannear: "Ah, here they come. Let us complete the rite."
- Chief-of-Chiefs Cannear: "Eslyn of the Eagleseer, Madearn of the Six-Ford, will you take up the vow of marriage?"
- Eslyn: "Aye."
- Chief-of-Chiefs Cannear: "And you, Madearn Six-Ford?"
- Madearn: "Aye."
- Chief-of-Chiefs Cannear: "Then the handfasting rite is complete! Now, we've a wedding to plan!"
- Drisene: "Madearn, what becomes of us now?"
- <Drisene will run past Madearn and leave>
She can be found next to an archway at the bottom of the path afterward:
- "To say I did not think this would happen would be a lie. But ... I still must take time to deal with it. I think I need to be alone now, outsider."
Madearn Changes His MindEdit
If you told Madearn that you can't force him to make a decision, he'll have a surprising response at the ceremony:
- Chief-of-Chiefs Cannear: "Ah, here they come. Let us complete the rite."
- Chief Eagleseer: "Finally. Let's get on with it already."
- Chief-of-Chiefs Cannear: "Eslyn of the Eagleseer, Madearn of the Six-Ford, will you take up the vow of marriage?"
- Madearn: "No. I can't do this. I am promised to Drisene, of Clan Six-Ford!"
- Drisene: "Madearn!"
- Chief Eagleseer: "This insult won't stand, Six-Fords! You'll see your treachery matched with our flint."
- Chief Six-Ford: "This was not my doing, Eagleseer, but if it's a fight you want, a fight you'll get."
- Chief-of-Chiefs Cannear: "This can't be happening."
After the quest:
- "I can hardly believe what just happened. I don't know what to say, or what to think.
I'm relieved, of course, but … was Madearn's promise to me the only thing that dashed our hopes of peace between the Six-Fords and Eagleseers? That troubles me."
Find Another WayEdit
- "I can see it on the chief-of-chiefs' face. The handfasting's nearly done, isn't it? Oh, cruel spirits! This is more than I can endure."
Once you've spoken to Eslyn and Madearn, return to the circle and the two chiefs will express their regret and walk off. After all is said and done, she'll simply say:
- "I don't think I entirely understand what just happened. The handfasting is off? Madearn kept his promise to me?
I fear what this means for my clan, but I won't deny that I'm relieved."
Second ChancesEdit
Drisene will be in the Announcement Hall at the conclusion of Second Chances if you've completed Vows and Oaths if you decided that Madearn and Eslyn should not go through with the handfasting. She can be talked to:
- "Outsider, Madearn told me about everything you went through to help stop the handfasting between him and Eslyn. That now seems small in comparison.
I'm so grateful you came to my homeland."
If you convinced Madearn and Eslyn to go through with the handfasting she won't be present at the ceremony in the Announcement Hall.
