Detailed WalkthroughEdit

You can find Wyress Shannia, tending to a small spriggan in the ruins near the lake's edge.

"Of all the travesties against nature, this is the most foul. This is the last one, the last spriggan.
There used to be hundreds in Jackdaw Cove, frolicking about in the grass and the water. They were beautiful."
Did the Reachmen kill them all?
"Worse. They poisoned them, corrupted them, turned them into monstrosities—those lurchers.
This is the only spriggan left, and the Reachmen's poison already courses through her branches. She will soon transform unless I am able to treat her."
Is there some way I can help?
"My sisters would not want me to trust an outsider, but they are not here, and I cannot leave her side.
Frankly, I am surprised you share my concerns. You are sure you wish to help me?"
Yes. Just tell me what you need.
"I need heartwood. From inside the lurchers. It's the only thing that will help the little spriggan at this point.
I hesitate to ask more of an outsider, but we could do more than just ease her passing."

At this point in the conversation you will be given a choice, you can either the spriggan's suffering—or attempt to cure her completely.

What more can we do?
"There is a chance we can save her life. It will require more work though.
The heartwood degrades quickly in the lurchers, but sometimes remains pure. If you take the extra time to find the find the pure heartwood, it could save the spriggan."
We should just ease her passing.
"I'll stay here and do whatever I can to keep the poison from consuming the spriggan.
If she transforms into a lurcher, we'll have no choice but to kill her."
I'll do whatever it takes to save her life.
"I'll stay here and do whatever I can to slow the poison.
If the spriggan turns into a lurcher, we'll have no choice but to kill her."

Regardless of what choice you make, you will need to head to the nearby camps to find and kill lurchers.

Hunting LurchersEdit

The lurchers will be patrolling the nearby Dark Witnesses camps and though they are corrupted spriggans, they have no special abilities outside what lurchers normally have. If you decided to ease the spriggan's passing, you will need to harvest ten Heartwood Shards from the lurchers you destroy. However, if you decided to try and save the last spriggan, you will need to find three Pure Heartwood Shards; though these are rarer, they are much more potent.

Applying the PoulticeEdit

Once you have acquired the needed amounts of reagents, you can return to Shannia. If you were looking for heartwood shards, she will say:

"I fear the time is running short. The poison has nearly consumed the poor little thing.
If we don't do something now, she will transform at any moment. Have you brought the heartwood?"
Yes. I have the heartwood.
"Quickly then. Allow me to combine the heartwood shards into a poultice.
She's fought so hard to resist the poison and deserves rest. I hope this works."
Will it work?
"I hope so. Here. Take the poultice and apply it to the poor little thing. I must be prepared to do … whatever is necessary.
Pray to your gods that it works."
All right.

She will hand you the Heartwood Poultice to place on the spriggan. When you do so, the following will happen:

After applying the poultice the spriggan will die.

However, if you went out to find pure heartwood shards, Shannia will instead say:

"We shouldn't get our hopes up too much, but with the pure heartwood, there is at least a chance our little friend can be healed.
Have you been able to find any?"
Yes. I have the pure heartwood.
"Quickly then! let me mix it into a poultice.
I am grateful that you were about to find the pure heartwood."
You really think this will save the spriggan?
"I hope so. Here. Take the poultice and apply it to the poor thing. I must be prepared to do … whatever is necessary.
I pray to all the gods to bless our efforts and bring it back. The forest would never be the same without spriggans."
All right.

She will hand you the Pure Heartwood Poultice to place on the spriggan. Once you do so, it will have an immediate effect:

Wyress Shannia: "It worked! The little bugger's already thriving again! The power of nature is truly miraculous."

Avenging the SpriggansEdit

The Transformation Altar

No matter if the spriggan died or was cured, Wyress Shannia will not be finished with you. She knows where the spriggans were corrupted and twisted and wants the place destroyed.

"Thank you. Now, with nature's blessing, our little friend will survive the Reachmen invasion.
But as for her sisters … the only thing left is to avenge them."
(If Spriggan survived)

However, if the spriggan died she will instead say:

"It is done. The last spriggan is dead. It is good that we eased her passing ….
Now, though, she must be avenged. She, and all her sisters."
How do we avenge them?
"The abominations are created just across the water. A witchman has built a transformation altar there to perform his foul work.
I am not equipped for this task. Will you go destroy the altar and kill the witchman for me? For the spriggans who died?"
Yes. I will avenge them.
"Destroy anything and anyone you find on that island.
Then make them pay for what they've done to the spriggans."

This place can be found on an island west-southwest of Shannia and is accessible via a land bridge. The Transformation Altar itself will have a newly-created lurcher body lying on top, convulsing; setting fire to its body will effectively destroy the altar. However, the lurchers' twisted creator, Kaenach, will arrive, furious that someone is destroying his work.

Kaenach: "What pathetic creature meddles with my magic?"

Kaenach will fight using a mix of bonelord and necromancer abilities, and is likely to summon an undead creature at least once during the fight.

Once Kaenach is dead, you can return to Shannia with the news.

"Did you destroy the altar and kill that bastard witchman?"
Yes. The spriggans are avenged.

If the Spriggan survived:

"Thank you. I intend to take great care of this last little spriggan.
With Hircine's blessing, I hope she might be the seed to spawn many more, and that someday, a multitude of spriggans will again frolick
[sic] in the waters of Jackdaw Cove." (Said if the Spriggan was saved.)

Otherwise:

"Thank you. You've given me much peace.
I think I'll to make it my personal crusade to repopulate the spriggans here. I'll find some in Glenumbra and Viridian Wood to bring back. So perhaps we will cross paths again."
