Detailed WalkthroughEdit
The Prophet appears when you are close to a major city.
Talk to Varen Aquilarios in the Harborage. He says Sai Sahan hid the Amulet of Kings in the catacombs of Sancre Tor in the Colovian mountains. He refers you to Sai Sahan, who tells you that the Amulet is in a vault protected by a ward of Stendarr— the God of Justice, Mercy, and Well-Earned Luck.
In Sancre TorEdit
Enter the portal to Sancre Tor, and follow the path into a large room. As you enter, a projection of Mannimarco appears. He is fully aware that you are looking for the amulet, and used Sai Sahan's escape as a way to easily find its location. He tries to get the location out of Sai Sahan a final time—to no avail—before vanishing.
Talk to Sai Sahan. He believes that if you can receive Stendarr's blessing and pass through the barrier in place, you might be able to retrieve the amulet before Mannimarco can.
Follow the south passage into the next chamber.
Crypt of HeroesEdit
Down a narrow corridor, and before you reach the Inner Chamber, you will pass a gate on your left. Sai Sahan will identify it as the Crypt of Heroes, which he may have warned you to avoid back in the Harborage. You may enter if you wish, but it is entirely optional. If you do so, Mannimarco will quip about entering a crypt with a necromancer about, and you'll have to fight several undead warriors. Make sure to examine the large crypt in the center of this area -— the entrance is on its northern side. You'll find a chest with some treasure, and a room full of urns. If you loot the tomb, Mannimarco will remark on your efforts as you leave it and offer you a more formidable foe as a result: the Lord of Iron and Woe.
Inner ChamberEdit
In the grassy area of the inner chamber, Mannimarco appears again and reveals his plan to steal the Amulet without Molag Bal's knowledge. The ward of Stendarr will hide him from the God of Schemes' view, then he will use the Amulet's power as the greatest soul gem ever to trap Molag Bal's soul. He summons three Worm Cult necromancers and a Bone Colossus, which will summon smaller skeletons alongside them. Defeat them and head east to the Inner Courtyard. If you wish, there is a portal here that leads back to the Harborage, which you may use mid-quest, but, when you return, it's at the start of the Sancre Tor map. Doing so will not negatively impact the quest and may be helpful if you need to free up some space in your inventory.
Inner CourtyardEdit
Once you enter the Inner Courtyard, Sai Sahan asks for a brief respite, as he is exhausted and needs to rest. Optionally, you can talk to Lyris Titanborn before Sai Sahan. If you talk to her, she'll mention that his determination will allow him to press onwards, and that she will make her own sacrifices for the group. Talk to Sai Sahan to proceed; he'll mention that Mannimarco's sorcery opened up old wounds he got inside the Halls of Torment, and that he has taken a worse toll on his mind than any of the pain his body has endured. Despite this, he will press on.
Dragonguard TombEdit
You need to consecrate the shrine in the Dragonguard Tomb with Stendarr's blessing. The door to the Dragonguard Tomb is to the west. Inside, Mannimarco announces to your group that he raised Sai Sahan's fallen comrades. Sai Sahan does not want to kill his former friends, so he relies on you for most of the attack. Make your way to the Shrine of the Divines, a brazier in the west end of the tomb. Once it is lit, head back east to the Inner Courtyard.
Reman VaultEdit
Follow the eastern passage to the Reman Vault. To reach the altar here, you need to lower the drawbridge first. (Before crossing the drawbridge, if you follow the riverbank west, there is a small chest hidden behind a tall rock that you can loot.) There are four levers to operate the drawbridge. When you operate any one of the levers, the lever you used and the ones beside it will move to their opposite positions. To bring the drawbridge down, all four levers must be pointing away from the drawbridge. Observing the levers while looking toward the drawbridge, and numbering from left to right, pull levers 2, then 3, then 1. If you get stuck, you can go back to the mid-quest portal back to the Harborage; when you come back to this vault, the levers will be reset to their starting positions. (See bug below.)
Once you light the brazier, Mannimarco summons some undead to appear and attack you; clear them out and leave the area.
The Vault AntechamberEdit
You need to continue on into the Vault Antechamber. Go back into the Inner Tomb and follow the final passage to the Inner Courtyard, then the Vault Antechamber.
In the Antechamber, Mannimarco appears again. He will once again fantasize about the power the Amulet will grant him, as he visualizes all the rulers of Tamriel bowing to him (you will see apparitions of Akkhuz-ri, Eyes-of-Steel, King Kurog, Queen Ayrenn, King Fahara'jad, High King Emeric, Clivia Tharn, Jorunn the Skald-King, and General Noramil). Defeat the waves of enemies, then head to the Vault of Kings.
The Vault of KingsEdit
Once you enter the Vault of Kings, talk to Sai Sahan. He will tell you to use the Ring of Stendarr's Mercy on the door by standing within the casting circle. Approach the door, then use the ring within its glow.
Once inside, you'll need to kill Mannimarco. Afterwards, he says death is merely the first step towards immortality. His dreams of total domination, however, are immediately shot down, as Molag Bal notices his treachery. A portal to Coldharbour opens, and Mannimarco is forcefully pulled into it, to be taken to Coldharbour for eternal torment.
To the west is the Amulet of Kings. Take it and return to the Harborage.
Talk to Varen for your reward. With Mannimarco defeated and the Amulet of Kings back in the hands of the Companions, the group can continue moving forward in their plans to stop Molag Bal—after a much-needed rest.
NotesEdit
- There are several unlocked chests in Sancre Tor which contain better-than-average loot (including the one above), but unlike most such containers, they will disappear after you open them once, even if you don't take any of the contents. You should be sure to have enough space in your backpack to avoid missing out.
- Prior to the One Tamriel update, this quest could not be started until level 40.
- Sometimes, when operating the drawbridge in the Reman Vault, only the first two levers in the sequence will need to be pulled (lever 2 and lever 3, without needing to pull lever 1). If so, just cross the drawbridge; there's no negative impact.
- At one point, this quest's journal text was different. It read as follows: Sai Sahan and I must venture to Cyrodiil and recover the Amulet of Kings from the ancient Imperial tomb at Sancre Tor.
BugsEdit
- If you get the drawbridge down in the Reman Vault, then go back to the Harborage via the mid-quest portal in the Inner Chamber before crossing the drawbridge and completing the consecration, then come back to the Reman Vault and touch the drawbridge levers again, the drawbridge will go up and the levers will become inoperable. ?
- Workaround: Go back again to the Harborage, return to the Reman Vault, and the levers will again be operable.
- When attempting to open the Vault of Kings, the animation may not trigger, preventing further progress ?
- On PC, use the /reloadui script to reload the room; this will allow you to open the vault as normal.

- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
