- "Oh, please! Don't encourage him. The earthquakes upset everyone. And that fissure's been here for years. The rest of us have adjusted; why can't he?"

- "The fissure appeared four years ago. Four years! I'm sick of hearing about how he senses things others don't, that he should have been a mage. Either he stops this madness or I'm leaving!"
