Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Speak to Gilse Areth. She says that Vaden Baro is investigating the disappearance of an Ordinator in a cave called Nalad, west of Necrom. It is advisable to stock up on potions of fatigue, restore strength, magicka and healing - a tough fight lies ahead. Scrolls of Silence will also prove useful.
To reach Nalad, head west on the road from Necrom until you reach a fork in the road, where the northern path goes up to the Sacred Lands Sanctuary. Continue on the western road, keeping the ridge of hills to your left. Nalad is just over this ridge of hills.
On entering Nalad, make your way through the cave. The enemies here have strange faces or mismatched bodies, and make for a tough fight. A non-hostile NPC named Tullus Sellius is in the pit in the western chamber, and will provide some optional context for the situation. If well-stocked on potions of levitation, the enemies in this section of the cavern can be lured into the pit, if fighting is proving too difficult.
A further hostile Faceless is present in Nalad's shrine. Kill it or avoid it, and speak to Brelar Aradil in the east of this section. He will inform you that a creature called the Face Stealer has been trapped in the shadowed tomb - the entrance of which being nearby.
Enter the shadowed tomb, and speak to the faceless entity inside. Put on the helmet it gives you, and step outside. 'Brelar Aradil' will panic, losing some of its power. You will have to fight it.
- The first form is a melee-wielding Dark Elf, with a high chance of knockdown.
- The second form is a fast Khajiit, using hand-to-hand combat - be careful not to get too low on fatigue, or you may collapse to the ground and never get up.
- The third form is a magic-wielding High Elf, who will summon a deadly Winged Twilight. A scroll with the Silence effect will be useful here - alternatively, this is the time to let loose with your magic items, as High Elves are more vulnerable to them. The Winged Twilight will not despawn, so do take it out when you can.
- The fourth form is a Dark Elf, who will heal, and who will summon a Greater Bonewalker if given the chance to do so.
- A Nord, still armed with a mace.
- A Dark Elf vampire with a mace.
- A faceless thing, and the final form.
Return to the Shadowed Tomb once the Face Stealer is dead, and speak to faceless entity inside - Vaden Baro, in reality. He will be grateful, and ask you to report in to Uvo Brin, leader of the Speakers for the Dead, in Necrom. It is worth looting the carcass of the Face Stealer before leaving - the ebony mace alone is worth a great deal.
Uvo Brin is, as before, located in the Hall of Contemplation in Necrom's main temple, in an office on the southeastern side of the ground floor. He will congratulate you on your success and reward you with the Heart of the Speaker.
Return to Vaden Baro in Almas Thirr for another task.
