Captain Rana

Captain Rana is the Dunmer leader of the troops garrisoned at Bleakrock Isle. She will be there to greet new Ebonheart Pact players when they awake at the island.

Depending on your choices in the quests she is involved in, she may be promoted to centurion, and later appear in Davon's Watch, Ebonheart and Kragenmoor as you progress through Stonefalls' quests.

Quest-Related EventsEdit

According to a letter, she was stripped of her command and rank and court martialed for undisclosed conduct. She evidently made a hasty decision without proper proof, a decision which got soldiers killed. As conveyed in her log, she ended up in exile on Bleakrock Isle commanding a garrison of "stinking Nords". Sergeant Seyne remained loyal to her commander and followed her to Bleakrock.

Rana took over command from Tillrani Snow-Bourne, who continued to reside in Bleakrock Village and criticize her performance, even sometimes contravene her orders to the troops. Tillrani is especially critical of Rana's decision to send the garrison's troops off after a mysterious ship they spotted instead of following procedure by lighting their signal fire and evacuating. Rana has recently been having strange dreams, and is concerned about what Tillrani may try to do if she found out.

A Beginning at BleakrockEdit

If you woke up on the island and started the quest through, Rana remarks on your recovery and you she seeks your help on the island:

"I'm short on good help, and I could use someone capable. Someone like you."
How did I get here?
"A fisherman found you washed up on the beach. He brought you back to town.
It's a miracle you survived."
So what now?
"You're the one Holsgar pulled out of the water.
I'm glad you're up. I could use your help."
You wanted to speak with me? (Leads to start of quest)

If you started the quest through Riurik

"You're the one Holsgar pulled out of the water.
I'm glad you're up. I could use your help."
You wanted to speak with me? (Leads to quest dialogue)

If you didn't start out in Bleakrock Isle and didn't get found by ship:

"I'm short on good help, and I could use someone capable. Someone like you."
What's wrong?
"We sighted a ship offshore. I've sent my troops to investigate. If it's the vanguard of an invasion ... well, we'll need to evacuate."
Where are the villagers?
"You'll find the people of Bleakrock all across the island.
Darj, the hunter, went to Skyshroud Barrow. Eiman's out at Orkey's Hollow with his sister, Rolunda. Seyne, my sergeant, is out at Hozzin's Folly."
I'll go find them.

Alternatively, you can be directed to speak with her by Mathor. Regardless of introductions, she will get down to business:

"I'm short on good help, and I could use someone capable. Someone like you."
What's wrong? / So what now? (If you spoke to Mathor first)
"You've seen combat, and I need all the help I can get today.
Villagers are scattered across the island. We need to warn them."
Warn them? Why?
"We sighted a ship offshore. I've sent my troops to investigate. If it's the vanguard of an invasion ... well, we'll need to evacuate."
Where should I start looking?
"You'll find the people of Bleakrock all across the island.
Darj, the hunter, went to Skyshroud Barrow. Eiman's out at Orkey's Hollow with his sister, Rolunda. Seyne, my sergeant, is out at Hozzin's Folly."

Three topics will follow. You can ask about each:

What is Skyshroud Barrow?
"It's an old dragon shrine. It's a relic of the Dragon Wars.
Some of the villagers claim they saw undead out there. I sent Darj out to get proof."
Tell me about Orkey's Hollow.
"Locals claim it's haunted. They dare each other to spend a night inside. It's a silly custom, but a harmless one."
Hozzin's Folly? What's that?
"It's an abandoned mine. A family came out from Stonefalls to work the place. Rumor has it they're Daedra worshippers. Now some bandits are hunting through the place, and we need to know why."

You will have to choose a place to start at:

I'll start at Skyshroud Barrow.
"Thank you, friend. After you find Darj, keep looking. The more people you can send back here, the better off we'll be."
I'll start at Orkey's Hollow.
"Tillrani Snow-Bourne adopted Eiman and Rolunda after their parents died. She won't leave without them.
Send them back here. Then see who else you can find."
I'll start at Hozzin's Folly.
"Thank you, friend.
Once you've dealt with the bandits and sent Seyne back here, see who else you can find."

You can ask her some more questions:

Can I ask you a few questions?
"I'll answer what I can.
Captain Tillrani's got the villagers thinking I'm an addled netch, but I'm actually a bit smarter than that."
How did you end up here?
"Posted to this backwater, you mean? I made a hasty decision, a bad call. Soldiers died.
I learned my lesson. Now I don't act without proof."
What does Tillrani have against you?
"I took her job. You might have heard her yelling about that in the square.
It's petty, but what can I do? Every time I've reached out to her, she's slapped my hand."

You can also ask Rana about the races of the Pact:

Could you tell me about the races of the Pact?
"I'm not a scholar, but I'll tell you what I know."
Can you tell me about the Nords?
"I like Nords. Most Nords I've met are strong of arm and heart. I call them the proud spine of the Pact.
I'm also more comfortable behind their swords than in front of them."
Can you tell me about the Dark Elves?
"Other than our beauty, brains, and rapier wit? We proudly work to enact the will of the Tribunal, our living gods.
If the Nords are the heart of the Pact, and the Argonians are the soul, the Dark Elves are the brains."
Can you tell me about the Argonians?
"The Argonians are a mystery to me. The ones I've met keep to themselves. Good scouts, I'll give them that.
Not long ago, the Dunmer held them as slaves. That ended with the founding of the Pact. Now we're all best friends."'

If you're one of these three races, you'll get different dialogue than you would otherwise.

If you're a Nord, it will be:

"A Nord asking me about Nords. Clever... for a Nord.
Honestly? Your people impress me. Most I've met are stout and adventurous. Strong of arm and heart. Good folk."

To a fellow Dunmer, she'll say:

"I won't speak for you, friend, but I live to enact the will of the Tribunal, our living gods. With their help, we can meet any challenge.
If the Nords are the arm of the Pact, and if the Argonians are the heart, we're the brains."

If you're an Argonian, it will be:

"You're asking me about Argonians? That's cute. I know you like your mud, and you rarely get upset. Most Argonians I've met mostly keep to themselves. Also, we once held you as slaves. So there's that. Sorry."

Speaking to her again, she will give you directions:

If you chose Skyshroud Barrows first:

"Skyshroud Barrows is northeast of the village. Send everyone you find back here. Good luck."

If you chose Orkey's Hollow first:

"Orkey's Hollow is north of the village. Send everyone you find back here. Good luck."

If you chose Hozzin's Folly first:

"Hozzin's Folly is west of the village. Send everyone you find back here. Good luck."

After the quest, if you choose to return to her:

"Have you spoken with any of the villagers?"

The Missing of BleakrockEdit

If you choose to start the quest through Captain Rana:

"You're back! Is it true?"
The Daggerfall Covenant is amassing for an attack.
"If only I had listened to Tillrani! I was a fool! We must evacuate, but people are scattered all over the island.
Please, seek them out. I'll rally them as they return."
I'll find as many as I can.

You have the option of ordering an early evacuation or keep searching for villagers:

"I'll prepare the town for evacuation. Find as many people as you can and send them back here."

Let's leave now.

"Are you sure about this? Anyone we haven't found will be left behind." (If you haven't found everyone on the island)
Yes, I'm sure. It's time to leave.
"You're right. We can't wait any longer.
Vivec preserve us all."

I'll keep looking.

"Thank you. Be careful out there."

If you choose to evacuate early and exit out of the conversation before turning in the quest, she will alternatively say:

"I hate running, but we don't have a choice."
It's time to evacuate. (Leads to quest completion dialogue)

Coming back before finding all of the villagers and after helping Sergeant Seyne, Hunter Daj or Rolunda:

"You're back! Is it true?"
The Daggerfall Covenant is amassing for an attack.

After finding all the missing villagers:

"I'll prepare the town for evacuation. Find as many people as you can and send them back here."
I've gathered all the missing villagers, Rana.
"The people of Bleakrock owe you.
I owe you."
Let's get going.
"You're right. We can't wait any longer.
Vivec preserve us all."

If you choose to evacuate and exit out of the conversation before turning in the quest, she will alternatively say:

"I hate running, but we don't have a choice."
It's time to evacuate. (Leads to quest completion dialogue)

Sparking the FlameEdit

If you haven't started the quest yet and exited out of the conversation with her:

"It's time to get off this island."
Where do you want me? (Leads to quest dialogue)

Otherwise continuing from the previous conversation:

"The Covenant is here. They've taken the signal fire, and we need to warn the mainland.
I need you to carve a path through them and light it. The beacon stands atop the tower just outside town."
Where are you going to be?
"I'm going to rally the villagers and get them ready to go.
Find Tillrani when you're done at the tower. She'll hold the way open. She knows where to go."
I'll do it. Good luck, Rana.
"Get that fire lit. We'll be ready to go when you get back."

She will mention where the villagers will run to when the attack begins:

Where are we going? Has the boat returned?
"I don't expect to see those troops again. We're headed for a beach on the far side of the island.
They don't think I know about it, but smugglers sometimes anchor in that cove. I just hope we catch a break."

Once you've finished saving the Earth-Turner family, she will be waiting outside of Last Rest with the rest of the survivors:

"Welcome back. The villagers you rallied are ready to move."
Then we've done everything we can.
"I just wish we could have done more.
Well, then! Are you ready to get off this rock?"

Escape from BleakrockEdit

Continuing from the conversation, you will need to go through the tomb to make sure the evacuation goes as planned:

"You and I are going to lead the way through the tomb. The locals call it Last Rest.
Darj and Seyne are going to bring up the rear. We'll make sure everyone keeps moving."
Are you sure we can make our way through?
"Tribunal willing. I've studied a map of the tomb's layout, but I never dared to enter.
This place is old. The original inhabitants of Bleakrock rest inside... and not quietly."
What are we waiting for, then?

Inside the tomb, there are spike traps blocking the way. You will need to shut them off to allow the refugees safe passage:

"Two switches will shut these traps off. We need to hit them at the same time.
Get the one on the far wall. I'll hit mine when you do."

Before you go to your switch:

"Get that switch on the far wall, friend."

Once the traps are shut off:

Captain Rana: "Darj, bring them through."

Speaking to her while the refugees are crossing:

"This won't take long. Patience, friend."

Once the refugees are safely past you, speak with Captain Rana:

"So many dead because of me. I don't know if I'll be able to live with myself after this."
The villagers need you to lead them to safety.
"They need a leader, but they're stuck with me."
Where do we go from here?
"I need you to unlock a door deeper inside the tomb. That door will have stones with flower symbols upon it.
Head through the door behind me. I'll see you soon."

Speaking to her again:

"Look for a door inside the tomb with carved stones next to it. I'll find you after you unlock that door."

Unlocking the door, she beckons you to follow her to another door to unlock:

Captain Rana: "This way."

Meeting up with Captain Rana again:

"We're almost out.
I'll unlock the door at the bottom of the stairs. In the next room, there's another switch I'll need you to trigger."

After you unlock the switch, you will notice her fighting skeletal warriors from the scaffolding:

Captain Rana: "I'll meet you on the other side of that door."

You will meet her again in the snow-filled chamber:

"The cove should be just beyond this door.
I'll go on ahead. Wait for the rest of them here."

At the cove, she will finish negotiating with Wind-in-Sails to allow safe passage to Bal Foyen:

"Our shellback friend here will get us to safety. He's a hero of the Pact!
And for what I've promised to pay him, he'd better be."
Where are we headed?
"I fear the Covenant would intercept us if we went straight for Davon's Watch.
So we're going to make for Dhalmora, a small town down the coast. Are you ready to go?"
Let's get out of here.

Once you land in Bal Foyen, she mentions that the Covenant is still attacking Pact lands:

"We're here. The villagers are safe for the moment.
But the Covenant's still coming. We've got to get word to Davon's Watch."
I'm ready, Rana. What do we do now?
"We sprint. If we act quickly, we might be able to alert Davon's Watch before the Covenant ships arrive.
You ready?"

If By SeaEdit

If you haven't started the quest yet, she will say:

"Looks like a hard road to Davon's Watch."
What's the first step? (Leads to quest dialogue)

Otherwise continuing from her previous conversation:

"Go to the watchtower, just past the village of Dhalmora.
Tell the soldiers there to light the signal fires along the coast. The fires will warn Davon's Watch that war is upon them."
Where are you headed?
"I'm going to rally folks here and in Dhalmora. Get the battle-ready mustered. Send the non-combatants to safety with Darj.
Now hurry. The fate of Davon's Watch depends on you."
I'm on my way.

You can ask her more questions at this point:

"Get to the watchtower as soon as you can.
There's just no time."
Where are we?
"We're far southeast of Bleakrock. It's a coastal region of Morrowind called Bal Foyen.
Behind you is the Inner Sea, and across that is the island of Vvardenfell."
What is Davon's Watch?
"It's the biggest port in Stonefalls and one of the largest cities. Most of the trade on the Inner Sea passes through here at some point.
It'll be the first place the Covenant hits. I just know it."
What kind of town is Dhalmora?
"It's an Argonian town, full of canals, mud houses, and mosquitos.
Bal Foyen was just a swamp before the Great Houses donated it to their former slaves. Believe it or not, Fort Zeren used to be an entry point for the slaves brought from Black Marsh."

When you are trying to acquire kindlepitch at the dockyards, she will be at the docks standing near Sergeant Seyne and Sergeant Endril. If spoken to at the docks:

"This pup is confident that we'll repel the Daggers. After Bleakrock, I'm not confident in anything.
The only things I trust are my blade, my sergeant, and you."
How do we look?
"Not sure. I think we'll hold.
The biggest surprise today is the smallest Earth-Turner."
Trynhild is here?
"Three keep us, yes. She's on the other side of the bridge. Rolunda's sparring with her even now.
Tryn's got the fire of a Dark Elf and the strong back of a Nord."

Breaking the TideEdit

You'll find Rana at the covenant ship, the King Casimir's Pride:

"The commander of this vessel is the one who led the slaughter at Bleakrock.
This ship will be his grave."
Where is he?
"Belowdecks. Follow me."

Follow Rana into the hull of the ship:

"The Breton dies here.
Are you ready?"
Yes.
"Good. Here he comes."

Put down General Vette and she'll send you back to the docks:

"Go. I'll meet you on the docks."

Meet up with her and other survivors and she'll tell you:

"I must never forget the lives lost because of my mistakes.
I took a trophy from that Breton. It will … remind me."

If you choose to defend Fort Zeren and completed Zeren in Peril, Captain Rana will not survive but have taken out General Vette with her during her last moments. You will see both their bodies on the deck of King Casimir's Pride.

DialogueEdit

Davon's WatchEdit

If you helped her at the docks, she can be found mourning the lost at Davon's Watch, in a small cemetery east of the Mages Guild and due north of the bridge with the other Bleackrock survivors. She has been promoted to the rank of Centurion. You can talk to her.

"Despite the pain, I'm glad we're standing together today to lament the loss of friends and comrades.
That may be selfish, but it's true.
What will you do now, Rana?
"Seyne and I will be reassigned, I imagine.
Tryn says she wants to continue training, despite her recent loss. I'll ensure she has a place with us, if I can."

If you chose to defend the fort, her body will be moved to that same cemetery in Davon's Watch where the remaining Bleakrock survivors will pay their respects.

EbonheartEdit

She can be found with the other Ebonheart survivors in a camp outside the city walls next to the blacksmith and clothing station.

"Welcome to camp, my friend.
After Bal Foyen, I thought for sure that Seyne and I would be reassigned immediately. Still haven't heard from command, though."
What are you hoping for from command?
"I just hope they put us back in the fight! Having my rank returned is like a gift from the Three.
Now they just need to tell command where to send us."
Are you pleased to be a Centurion again?
"Not sure I'd phrase it that way, but yes. We've been through so much, I'd be mad as Sheogorath if I wanted to turn things out like this.
But it's good to be back."

KragenmoorEdit

She and Sergeant Seyne can be found by the stables under the bridge.

"Justice and honor, friend. Seyne and I finally have our orders. We're being sent to Deshaan to help with some local troubles there."
What kind of trouble?
"I'm not really sure. Some kind of disease, as I hear it. The local troops are having a hard time dealing with the situation.
Command thinks a group of irregulars might be able to help."
How are the Earth-Turners fitting in?
"I'm still worried about Aera, but at least she has Rexus to keep her company.
Tryn will make a fine warrior. She's taken to army life like a fish to a stream."
Hoknir's a part of your command, then?
"They tested us out before giving us an assignment. Hoknir hit every impossible shot they threw at him. That really impressed command.
I'm glad he's watching my back."
What does Runs-in-Wild think of this?
"Deshaan's closer to Black Marsh, so I think he's looking forward to it. He keeps complaining about his dry scales."
How is Rolunda working out?
"I was worried at first, but with some training, she's proven deadly.
And she's practically adopted Trynhild. Good woman."
