One Hand and Shield is one of the six weapon skills available in Elder Scrolls Online. Skills in this line focus on damage mitigation and various methods of stunning or controlling enemies. In addition, completing a fully charged heavy attack on an enemy will recharge the user's stamina based on their level. Use of these abilities, as well as progression through this skill line, requires equipping a one-handed weapon and a shield at the same time. Note that only equipping a shield will not train this skill, while still providing the benefit of the armor, trait and enchantment.

The One Hand and Shield skill line is granted the first time you kill an enemy with a weapon and shield equipped. You can increase your skill by engaging in combat with a weapon and shield equipped, or by having One Hand and Shield skills slotted. The more skills you have slotted, the faster your skill will increase. Imperials and Redguards are naturally gifted with One Hand and Shield, and will learn the ability more quickly than other races. In addition, you can earn free levels in the skill line by reading Skill Books, which may be found randomly on bookshelves anywhere. The skill books which increase One Hand and Shield are:

- The numbers displayed here are the base values for the skills. Magicka/Stamina Cost is based on a character of Level 50 160. Damage values are based on Max Magicka/Stamina 12000, Max Health 16000, and Weapon/Spell Damage 1000. The actual numbers you see in the game may depend on a variety of factors, including skill line rank, your equipped weapons and armor, other skills, enchantments, etc. As such, they should only be used as a comparative reference.
